View Full Version : Running HDMI-->HDFury-->VGA Input on LCD; Will I reduce input lag?

Seeing as HDFury's are pretty cheap now going for $60 on Monoprice I got to thinking: Supposedly using the VGA port on TVs seriously cuts down on input lag. So since there's currently no VGA cable for the PS3 I'm thinking I could run an HDMI cable into an HDFury and connect the HDFury to the VGA input on my TV. Would this offer any benefits as far as reducing input lag?

My TV is a Sharp LC-32D43U if that's necessary information. Also I'm currently using game mode over HDMI, have sharpness at 0, and have all post-processing effects like the BS "Black Level Enhancer" turned off.

Your input is appreciated.

Sharp LCD's have some of the best input lag times of any of the LCD panels. I doubt that you would see any noticeable difference using the VGA port. Do you see input lag now?

You cannot see input lag on modern LCDTVs, especially not on a Sharp.

- A lot of people see lag, especially with LCD's with input lags of 30ms or greater. It's very evident when playing fighting games or timing based games like Guitar Hero. Which is why a lot of TV's specifically have a Game mode.

It's not horrible but it is there. I'd guess around 15-30ms; it feels like half a frame or a frame. I think my model came out before Sharp really started focusing on panels with little input lag. It's not enough to even notice in most situations but often when it comes down to a really quick action like a knife fight in CoD I feel like the action on screen is delayed just enough to throw me off so I get my strike in right after the other guy has already killed me.

I notice the same thing on my 360 when playing Halo. I seem to be a fraction of a second behind in shotgun duals and melee face-offs almost every time.

i have searched and searched and searched some more, and still no feedback from ppl who have actually used their VGA port on their TV to reduce input lag while gaming. this one was pretty damn close, but the OP never finished what he started nor did anyone with actual experience reply to it.

sigh. i feel like im the only one who wants to know the truth. lol. if anyone can shed some light on this (still) unresolved dilemma, please chime in! thank you.

You're probably just talking to the wrong crowd. These folks (http://shmups.system11.org/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=57b7d089722bb160eed86e9a910f250a) care about lag, and won't claim it doesn't exist on modern TVs. Good luck.

I assure you that your brain is not quick enough to detect a 15ms delay between an action and subsequent response on your TV. It sounds to me like you only experience this when playing online games... which leads me to believe that it's actually internet lag that you're experiencing.

To the OP - no adding additional converters and cables will not reduce lag...

#1 i have a hdfury hooked up to a sony 40"xbr4. it works.
#2 do some research the lowest amount of input lag on any tv is thru the pc input/vga if the set has one.
#3 u do lose the ability to run your audio thru hdmi out thru a receiver.
#4 i think hdfury input on the sony looks best. input lag reduction is similar to game mode which looks like **** on the sony.
