View Full Version : What's the better way to use VGA on my 360? VGA Cable or HDMI cable-->HDFury?

Considering switching from using HDMI to VGA on my 360 in hopes that it will reduce input lag. I was curious what the better method would be though: Using a straight up VGA cable from the 360 to the TV OR outputting HDMI from the 360 into an HDFury connected my TV's VGA input? I figure either way I'll be utilizing the TVs VGA input which should cut down on lag. However I thought by using the HDMI out to the VGA input via the HDFury I'd still have the benefit of the HDMI Color Space adjustments as well as using the VGA input.

Is my logic flawed? Am I overthinking this? Is VGA even going to offer me any benefit cutting down on lag considering I'm already using Game Mode with sharpness at 0 and all post-processing effects off?

Your input is appreciated.

Don't use the hdmi port on your 360 or you won't correctly get the true 0-255 rgb color space,, you will get an expanded version of 16-235 to 0-255 if you use that hdmi port. So just use the official microsoft vga cable and your set brah.

Well before you choose the VGA, make sure that your set can accept 1080p from the VGA. I wasted my money on the M$ VGA cables before doing proper research to determine whether my set accepts 1080p via the VGA input. This post of course only matters if your set is a 1080p set, of course.

Nope, 1366x768. Another convenience of VGA is I could output 1360x768 instead of 720p eliminating a lot of scaling. Thank you NXE.

Just wanted to add a bit more here, on hdmi, there is more processing since there are handshakes going on, like with HDCP, for full details, google it, but in the end it just ends up with more processing for your tv to do using it.

So if you want the least processing connection, the offical microsoft vga cable set to your tv/monitor's native resolution and reference levels on expanded is the way to go.
