View Full Version : A "solid-state" DVD Player (well, kind of)?

Hello,

I would like to be able to play AVI, DiviX, and other movies formats on my TV from a USB memory stick or a compact flash card of some kind. Although I realize that there are several DVD players currently on the market that permit me to do just that, another thought struck me since I already have a DVD player and I'd rather not buy another just for that purpose. Instead, I thought it might be useful if someone sold a device that only contained the electronics portion of such a DVD player. That is, it would still connect to the TV inputs and would still support USB sticks, compact flash cards, remote control, etc., but would be missing all the mechanical stuff needed to play actual DVDs. Such a device would obviously be much cheaper to make. Have any of you heard of such a device? Of course, an industrious person could always rip the electronics portion out of a DVD player and repackage that, but that would be fairly counterproductive I'm afraid.

Thanks,
Ray

Sounds like a device like Popcorn Hour.
