I am relocating to Tokyo, Japan from NJ. I was wondering if anyone had experience or insight into taking some of my TVs to Tokyo. Japan (eastern Japan) has 100v, 50hz current. The equipment that I am thinking about taking are a Samsung LN-T5265F, a Pioneer PDP5071, a Marantz S5001 receiver and my PS3. I haven't been able to check the Samsung because the manual doesn't specify the power needed (it says to check the back of the TV which is impractical at this point since it's mounted on a wall), but the other equipment specifies 120v 60hz. I'm not too concerned about the voltage but the frequency does concern me.

Also curious if a Japanese cable/satelite signal will work on a US TV.

Thanks,

Carled

Just about all Japanese made electronics will run on both frequencies even if the label doesn't say so, given that half the country runs on one frequency and the rest on the other. I'd imagine Samsung, which is a massive global company, wouldn't design different power surplies for different regions of the world, too.

Japanese DTV standards use the same output formats as the US does, but you'll need a new set top box as they use ISDB instead of ATSC. It should be as easy as plugging an HDMI cable from your new box into your existing TV.
