I think this game has to have the most realistic graphics/in game texture graphics that's been made. [I]/I]i did not like the first uncharted btw, but with this game using the right display and a capable HT setup this is more like an interactive (addicting) action movie. just my 2c.
If anyone has a PRO111FD, a PS3 and haven't played it, go rent it, use the game mode picture setting and give it a try. I can't attest to what it looks like on any other display.

Also...read the blog posts. lol. people are seriously griping over the $50k cap on matches once you use the badge of honor boosters. They all want the cap removed for the double points weekend too. lol. I'm sure there are plenty of high ranking guys that would frown on that.

Edit: I'm guessing that you're using the Jakpro stat card site and just keying in the PSN IDs and then watch it generate the card and then check the stats from there.

LOL... I was just trying to catch up to you on time played (which I've done) and now I'm trying to catch up to you on amount of games played (still 6 behind).
Oh, and despite gaining the "badge of honor" boosters (which I haven't bought), I won't be using them only because I care about my K/D ratio a little too much! :D

Thanks eddy, but I was asking where he was checking "our" stats not my own stats. I've been using Naughty Dog's website to track my own stats when I'm not checking them on the leaderboards in the game. I kinda figured that dogdoctor used the jakpro gamer card and just keyed in different PSN IDs and then have the card generate the stats.

It is inexcusable that a player can take control of a riot shield, and spends a good percentage of the game in a snowy, mountainous region; yet there is no scene where the player uses the riot shield to sled down the side of a hill ala Willow. :mad: :mad:

At 41 years old I had been out of gaming for a long while...the occasional Wii Sports with my 10 year old son. Now that he has a ps3 it is GAME ON!!!!!

I've been playing this game online since the beta and have never had any problems. The past few days however, I've been getting randomly signed out of PSN while playing UC2 mp. This is happening a lot, so frequently, that I lost 40K (sign out penalty). I'm not complaining (a few friends have), but this is a bummer because I have to keep signing back in. It started happening once or twice a day last week, then 3-4 times yesterday.
I play this game A LOT so I know it's happening to me more simply because I play so much and have a higher chance of having it happen, but still, lately it's been too too much. The penalty is, lol.
I don't have this issue with any other games. If anyone else has been experiencing this or has any tips, it would be appreciated if you could let me know:cool:

In Japan (and presumably the rest of the world too), Uncharted 2 will see a downloadable content pack on January 28th consisting of character skins for Nathan Hale (Resistance 2), Chimera (Resistance 2), Jack (Infamous), Good Cole (Infamous), Evil Cole (Infamous), Sergeant Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko (Killzone 2) and a Helghast Soldier (Killzone 2). Sony provided some first images of these.
A February 25th content pack will follow and include content from the original Uncharted, including two multiplayer maps -- one set in a ruins setting. Skins for this pack include Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher, Atoq Navarro, Eddy Raja, Gabriel Roman and a mercenary.
Finally, April 15th with see a third DLC pack consisting of a new cooperative multiplayer mode, four multiplayer maps, and five skins. The initial January 28th pack will be free. The other two packs are paid, although Sony did not share pricing.
Cool stuff!!

What a morning! We've read some inaccurate news regarding our DLC making the rounds. More - and accurate - info coming soon, stay tuned!
But I must say, I really do enjoy the co-op objective modes, the arena survival mode is also fun when you can communicate with your team. It took me a while to discover co-op objective mode, it's very much a replay of some of the levels - but with new cut scenes.
In one of the Nepal war zone co-op objective cut scenes, I laughed out loud when Chloe smacked Nathan's posterior while he held something for her to duck under.

Reading some of the replies to the topic on the Naughty Dog website is depressing. Some people have so much venom in them it's disgusting.

The multiplayer skins are up on PSN today... other regions started purchasing/playing with them last night (I'm in the US).

So, if it's 141KB, then I imagine the skin geometry/textures are actually part of the 1.04 update and you're just downloading an unlock code from PSN store.
People are complaining: it's not free, it's not available in my region (because I bought the game disk in a different country for cheaper), it's not up on PSN yet, they're silent (therefore allows stealth, which is unfair), they should not be silent (without sound effects they are a rip off), they are not available in single player or co-op, etc.
I'm sure many more are happy, paying customers! And if Sony/ND makes a buck, that should encourage more development and prolong Uncharted 2 DLC.
Personally, I've gotten more value out of this game than any other on the PS3. I wonder if the grind to X is where I'll stop, or if I'll even get there.
While a clan of Helgasts or Chimera would be cool, I'll probably sit these skins out, because I'm more interested in (potentially spending money on) new maps and co-op. I do not think I'm interested in more weapons, but I could be wrong. Unlocking some of the single player weapons might upset the balance, who knows?

The demo is the first part of Chapter 5: Urban Warfare. For a 3GB download, it's surprisingly short (ends when Chloey shows up with the rocket launcher).

I had downloaded the EU version -- the NA version is only 1.8GB. The difference must be due to the different language options. I guess all that uncompressed audio really does suck up a lot of disc space. It's kind of fun listening to all the different versions of Nate though.

I guess it was orignally startign with 10 shots. Now unless you have the "bandoleer" I think booster it starts at 6, with a maximum of 9 with booster. I guess the snipers are pretty pissed.

and as for the ...ign spelling. I've done that all my life. I type the order incorrectly. The word "the" is also a big one. Until I go back and change them any word ending with "ing" will almost always be "ign" and the will come across as the "t" stuck to the end of the word before it as in "whatt eh frack". I try to catch them, but I do it so often I read it normally with the errors. :p

Agreed, the FAL is much more practical and accessible on all levels. I only ditch it for the M4 or shotgun.
Offtopic: I've been offline from U2 multiplayer to give my ringing ears a rest, last weekend's rock concert didn't help either. I'd stopped playing with headphones, opting for just my bluetooth mic and nearly inaudible sound from my speakers for weeks now. I played online a few nights ago with the game completely muted, no mic, and I noticed something: the flash of a grenade on the screen caused the ringing in my ears to intensify!
My brain must really associate the sound design of U2 to the visual design (kudos to ND) and so I seem to have either a tiny bit of post traumatic stress disorder :confused: or withdrawal symptoms from the audio. I may need a RnR vacation from gaming to prevent hearing loss! I'm thinking Hawaii... :)

The Fal is definatly my go to weapon. I'll take that over every other weapon in the game, M4 included.

I'd like to say I'm half-way good at this game in deathmatch (2.0kd). I usually tell people to work at getting good with the Fal and learn to compensate for the lag (leading your shots a bit when someone is running left to right or vice versa).
There are usually "killzones" that I avoid in each map, like places where you can get shot at from multiple angles. I stick to the outer edge of the maps most of the time unless I'm running with a few other team mates.
One of cheapest tactics (which I shamlessly use) is dropping a grenade at your feet when someone gets the jump on you. Roll away as fast as you can and nine out of ten times your would be assasin will run right into the grenade. It's cheap but it's saved my arse many a time.

My hatred for the down the irons booster is because it takes no skill to control your shot. You just aim and hold the trigger down until they are dead. I use burst fire for a more accurate shot.

I've had 14 perfect matches, however, my best in terms of total kills was 57... since then I've had five or six 50 kill matches (been saving/protecting them in the cinema).
As for favorite line in the game, it's a scene actually, right after the museum when Nate is doing the "hand puppet" recollection of the previous days events between himself and Flynn.

About two months ago, in early December, we ran a little experiment over a weekend – we would lower the health for all players, in all playlists and game types, to be roughly the equivalent of activating the Crushing variation in a Custom game.
We wanted to see what you – our player population – thought about this change. We also invited everyone to take a poll on NaughtyDog.com to let us know what you thought.
After a couple of months had passed, we took the poll down and looked at the data we got from running the poll. The results are in the graph below.

What did we learn?
Overwhelmingly, to the tune of 39% of everyone who replied, you let us know that you enjoyed the lowered health during the Experimental Weekend. Coming in at a close second, 33% of you felt that it was a good thing as well, but that we should keep it within its own playlist, rather than have the lowered health active across all playlists and game types.
By contrast, only 20% of respondents disliked the lowered player health outright. If take into account everyone who responded critically to the Experimental Weekend – adding those who didn’t like it along with those who thought the health was lowered too much – then 24% of all respondents didn’t like the change to player health.
Even counting our margin of error (at the bottom of this post), the results are pretty clear – the majority of you liked the lowered health.
So… where does that leave us?
We hosted the Experimental Weekend to see if the lowered health addressed criticism that opponents were “bullet sponges” without affecting the overall game mechanics. After reviewing gameplay data and the poll results, if this is something we really wanted to do, then the answer would be far more complex than just changing health.
After a lot of tweaking and a ton of internal play-testing, we collectively determined the only correct way to tackle this would be to tune a broader range of multiplayer mechanics rather than only change player health.
Our upcoming Title Update 1.05 will reveal the minor weapon damage and attribute balancing we’ve done based on this poll, which we feel evolves our multiplayer game and keeps it fun to play and true to our gameplay philosophy.
(Results are based on a poll hosted on NaughtyDog.com which had 5,920 respondents, after removing duplicate and invalid responses, that was conducted from December 4, 2009, to January 30, 2010. For results based on the total sample of our unique player population, one can say with 99% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±1.7 percentage points.)

also..does anyone know if there will be new weapons added along w/the new skins and maps on the feb. 25th DLC? i've seen some images and characters are carrying different weapons...just wondering

Mikazaru 02-16-10, 06:07 PM Damn, my trophy collection for this game went from 100% to 84%:(. I knew I shouldn't have updated... Oh well, at least they didn't take away my Platinum. With BFBC2 only 2 weeks away, it's probably too late for me to start up online again. I think I'm only level 14 and 90% of that was done by my nephew. Just in case -- how's the matchmaking now (would hate to be going up against level X type guys)?
Edit: On the other hand, with everyone having to adjust, maybe now is a good time to start playing again.

Total fail. Body and leg damage the same? I guess they wanted to nerf the game for noobs so you don't really have to aim. That is plain stupid. It should be at minimal 1.5 X the shots in the leg vs chest.

No, I don't believe so. I played both last night as Plunder and Deathmatch type variation games. I will say this: they feel huge, but that's probably because I'm still getting to know them.
I do like them, so I agree with Eddy - it's money well spent!
Of course, I already made my donation for Haitian relief, so I don't feel as guilty spending money on this virtual destination. Wait, now that I've typed that sentence, I do feel some. :eek:

Title Update 1.06 includes a couple under-the-hood fixes we needed to make that don’t affect gameplay. Beyond that, we’ve also made the following updates:
- Removed automatic shoulder selection when players click the L1 shoulder button to aim
- Delayed the appearance of the scoreboard to allow time for players to view any medals received simultaneously with player death
At the same time the Title Update is released, we’ll also be pushing live updates to other aspects of our multiplayer. These updates include:
- Adjusted hitbox attributes so that players will take less damage to the character’s legs
- Decreased kill radius of grenades by 1 meter
- Decreased accuracy of Down the Irons by 15%
- Reduced rate of fire of the FAL by 10%
- Reduced rate of fire for the Dragon Sniper by 10%
- Collision and geometry changes to “The Fort” to prevent intentional glitching by players
We’ll be keeping an eye on how these changes work out in-game and, as usual, through your comments, forum posts and Twitter. See you online!

The grenade decrease is really going to suck...especially if they don't fix the accuracy of the bast radius. A smaller radius will be good for sure, but only if it actually takes the guy out. If we're on a nerfing kick....why is it that they can't nerf the situational awareness. I mean, I wouldn't mind if it only worked for say 5 meters distance. Then the poor sucker trying to use it would have to stop more often to make it work making it more cumbersome to use. Now that I would like to see.

Seriously, it seems that they are always trying to improve the balance of the game. So it feels like they are taking away advantages and making every round more of a challenge. I can't argue with that, but I do feel that pang from every adjustment as I settle into the changes.
I feel some nostalgia for 1.04, but I don't want to go back.

Let me ask you this, if you started as a brand new player at level 1 today, do you think you'd feel the same way?
Think back, this is how I felt when I started playing multiplayer during the beta: this game is tough, I love the sound and graphics, I hate getting beat up by the higher level players, but it's fun and I'm leveling up regularly, so I'm going to try and get better.
Didn't you feel the same and wouldn't you feel the same regardless if you started at 1.00 or 1.06?
The difference is that your expectations have been set from experience of changes from 1.00 to 1.05, but I don't think new players could feel the same way because it's all new to them.
Fundamentally, it is the same game, rebalanced.

The grind has nothing to do with it, they've really broken the game. When my buddies and I were grinding in Killzone 2 to hit the top 1% for the trophy, the game was still a ton of fun. When GG released their patch to "rebalance" the game, it was still fun... Naughty Dog have really hurt the fun-factor in their game by fudging with it so many times.
Also, I don't play the game nearly as much as many others do. You'll almost never find me playing on my own unless I'm waiting on a party to finish their game so that I can join them. I play with friends and playing with friends is supposed to be fun, however almost everyone is screaming into their mic about how "broken" the game now feels.
Finally, you were asking if the game would feel "broken" if we had started playing at 1.06 vs 1.00?... my answer, probably not. Now, let me ask you this, if you were a developer and were making a ton of money off of sales from October to February, garnering praise from all sorts of media about a great single-player experience as well as a very competent multi-player feature, knowing that there are other games coming out that could potentially hurt your audience, would you tinker with your game to ensure people stay to play or change it to the point where people are frustrated enough to pick up another game?

My biggest complaint is the half health, It's just to easy to die now. Die,respawn over and over is very frustrating. So this encorages camping and I try that but that gets boring. U2 was a unique game with it's running and gunnin(I agree there was to much of this) style which was a lot of FUN. The FUN is gone now. It seems all my friends are quitting and playing other games because of this. Im done with this game untill they bring the health back. They Broke a once great game. Im at level 53 and was going for 60 untill they screwed this game up with there incompetent updates.
I was Naughty Dogs #1 Fan I really really enjoyed this game I bought two copies at launch and told all family members and friends to buy this and most did but now it is messed up.
KingShorty 03-09-10, 10:39 AM First, people seem to think that Naughty Dog has reduced the health of each player in the game, that is not so. What they've done is increased the damage of each bullet in the AK and hand guns (depending on your distance).
how is it "broken?"
By tinkering around with the way the game plays. For example, pre-patch, if someone was shooting at you from behind, you had an opportunity to find cover and try and shoot back. Post-patch, no chance, you're dead.
Pre-patch: if you drop a grenade near someone, they die. Post-patch, they can escape without even getting knocked over.
Pre-patch: The FAL was a killer from distance. Post-patch: in the interest of "balancing" things, instead of reducing the amount of damage each burst causes, they've slowed down the fire-rate. This might not mean anything from afar, however if someone is running at you with a pistol/AK47 and you have a FAL, chances of you dying first are higher.
This game has become a camp-fest with 90% of the people I've played against using, either, "down the irons" or "situational awareness" boosters.
Even bigger than all this is that people have been complaining about glitches in the game. Sure Naughty Dog have fixed some of them but there are still some big ones that render playing some maps pointless (i.e. The Fort).

They took a good game and crapped all over it, and then crapped on it some more with 5 title updates. Every time they put out an update, something else would break and people would exploit it.

There are unconfirmed rumors of more paid DLC around the middle of this month that would comprise of a co-op scenario, more multiplayer maps, and skins. We'll see what happens, but I'm definitely interested in more maps.

There are a bunch of players not showing up on the leaderboards. Even some of the people on my friends list are not listed in the boards, evn though they are still playing.
Anyone else notice this?
Also, why do so many people complain about the 1.05 and 1.06 updates? If you were killing a bunch on 1.04, it should be easier now for you. This is the first shooter game I have ever played on-line, and caught the tail end of 1.04
since I got if for Christmas. I really can't judge how different it felt on 1.04, since I mainly played co-op then.

Siege cooperative game type
An arena co-op game type where two to three players defend a marked territory within a map against waves of NPC opponents. At the end of every round, the territory will change locations within the map and the NPC opponents will increase in difficultly. The only way you can score co-op points is to have all your players within the captured territory, all while being assaulted by NPC opponents.

The Highrise
Towering over the streets of Nepal, The Highrise is a map with plenty of opportunities for players to get the high ground on their opponents. Set on a series of destroyed and under-construction buildings, players need to be on their toes as there are many different jump locations and paths around the map. Players should also watch out for the incoming airstrikes, as they can clear the rooftops in seconds.
The Museum

While ND has tried to make the game better in playability, it really has shyed away from the appeal it had at the very beginning wich was where casual gamers could have a good time. If I wanted to play in a crushing playlist I would. I don't and unfortunately 1.06 essentially made it seem that way across the board.

I was doing OK with 1.06, my main gripe with it was the way they "rebalanced" the weapons (i.e. making the FAL have slower bursts). Also, the amount of people that use "situational awareness" really killed the game... might as well be MW2 with people using the "heartbeat sensor" all day.

I see. So on 1.04 you actually had a chance to find cover if getting shot at. I agree with you that this is one thing I don't like anout 1.06. It sounds like 1.07 will be good, but I don't like spawning with no grenades. I rarely throw them, but use Revenge to get an occasional kill. I don't think I will be going to grenade spawn points just to keep this booster on. I'll have to find another I like.
I am a mediocre palyer myself with a 1 to 1 kill ratio. I am usually dead in a long range gun fight, but in close I usually win. I need to get better at aiming quickly. I can lock on, but the other guy usually does quicker. I uped the sensitivity this past week, so this should help. it will get some getting used to though.

I'm sorry, but if people want to run sit. aware, I shouldn't be forced into running with it as well, or running evasion. And for the record I don't do either. But it is utter BS in my book. They've nerf the grenades, they've nerf the down the irons, they've nerf the FAL. They've nerfed everything but the single most annoying booster that IMO, is way too overpowered now. All you see online for the msot part is Sit Aware with rocket man, launch man. And why not? I mean if I was to exploit 1.06 for all it's got, i would too. Since all you really need to know is where people are and you can go on killing streaks all you want.
Sit. Aware needs to be nerfed. End of story. It needs to work just like a weapon respawn. You use it once and now you have 1 minute before you can use it again. Then those shotgun, corner, sit. aware campers can't just sit there the whole time pressing the up arrow. And i'll be dammed if I'm going to waste a booster just trying to avoid those pricks. But the game is a whole lot less fun because of them.

Now, seeing april 1st on that 1.7 update makes me think it's all fake.

When I quit, I would normally get 3-4 kills and die 8-10 times in Deathmatch, using stealthy tactics mostly. Yes, I sucked, but the thing that bothered me the most was getting several shots on someone, who wouldn't go down, while I would get knocked off with just a couple of shots, it seemed. I got my rank up to 12, and had a few boosters at my disposal, but just felt totally overmatched in these games against players ranked 40+.
So will it be worse or better now for me and do any of these changes affect co-op?
I'm thinking of getting the Siege DLC.
joeblow 04-12-10, 04:00 PM If you were getting killed despite getting the drop on someone back when you played because they were too tough to take down, it sounds as if the latest patch would benefit your style. Keep in mind that it all may change with the next announced pack however since not everyone is enjoying some of the changes that have been made (like being killed faster).
Maybe the balanced solution is to allow CQ weapons be the ones to deal a quick death when in close (i.e. shotties), and keep the damage done by longer range weapons under control.

I'm thinking of getting the Siege DLC.I suspect that you will be fine. But then again, it really depends on how quickly you can drop a shot (headshots, headshots, headshots!) on someone.
I was 700+ kills at 1.4 and since 1.6 I'm down to <300+ kills. So you can take that 1 of 2 ways. Either I was better at the game before 1.6 or I'm the same and this rebalancing thing is a little out of whack.
I hope you get the drop on someone, but due note, that you cannot likely get to cover if you aren't already in it.
Like I said earlier, that if those that are playing are owning with 1.6, then you are already IMO a very good to decent player. I would call myself average (maybe a little better), and well, I enjoyed the game immensely more at 1.4.

I don't always use it, but I like Situational Awareness. I have noticed though, that when I use it, I don't get near as many kills. It slows you down always looking for people. It is good if you fight in close like I do alot, but using it I can't get 20 kills in a death match. I like to use it and find the campers! That is a riot.
Also, if a player is running around alot then a person with Sit. A. on is not going to get them very much unless they run right into them.
I don't know how good Down the Irons was on 1.04, but I still get killed by this booster quite often. When I mentioned earlier in this thread that I normally lose a gun fight when I go head to head with someone far away, they usually have D.T.I on.
The grenades must have been awesome before 1.05/6 then, becasue I look on naughty Dog's site and over 15% of the times I have been killed is by grenades, and I started playing on the tail end of 1.05!
You mentioned the nerfed Fal. I did play enough with this gun before the change and I completely agree. I used to fight to get the Fal when the match started. Now I usually just keep the AK.
Currently my favorite boosters are From the Hip and Revenge. F.T.H. compliments my in close fighting and revenge kills someone every once in a while if they are not paying attention.

Does the small difference from body to head shots really make a huge difference? If so, this may be one reason I usually lose the long range fights. I just try to hit the target.

Despite a new co-op mode "not being likely" we got information about a new co-op mode coming to Uncharted 2 via a leak. Today we have the official announcement and screens straight from Sony and Naughty Dog that unveil the next piece of content to be released on April 22nd.
The new co-op mode is called Siege, which sounds like a cross between a territories style match and a survival mode like Gears of War 2's Horde mode. The mode has players holding a territory on the map while surviving waves of enemies. During the course of a match the territories will shift between locations, forcing players to work together to move and work together to live. Expect the action to be incredibly fast paced and hectic.
Two new maps will be included for specifically for Siege -
The Highrise, which provides "plenty of opportunities for players to get the high ground on their opponents," is set in Nepal.
The Museum has fortune hunters working "across rooftops, and through twisting corridors," along "numerous flank routes" and over "secret climbing routes" to have a leg up on enemies.
Additionally the DLC will include six new multiplayer skins and 11 new trophies, most of which appear to be geared towards co-op. While it's still not a true co-op addon for the game, it Siege does sound unique enough to make the content worth while.

You can't see them when you directly look at your trophies. But if you compare yourself to someone and look at the U2 trophies, you can see all the new ones at the bottom.
Also: King. After you took off last night I got mixed in with a group from overseas. We played nothing but objective based games (rotational). I must say it was fun for a change just to have Sniper rife and Pistole matches. Maybe we just need to mix it up again.

I like From The Hip more than Down The Irons. More people use D.T.I., but I like fighting in close to midrange and F.T.H. compliments my run and gun style. I very rarely lose in close with the pistol, but don't have the finess down for pulling the long gun up, aiming, then shooting perfectly to put the target down before I get put down. I can get great head shots all day long on co-op, but going against real people it is better for me right now to blind fire.
I don't think I lag at all, so it is strange that I lose so many long range fights. I have good reaction time; great infact. I have the reastion time of a female, which is supposed to be quicker than the avg. males! Racing at the track I always get a great reacion time, but it does not seem to translate to this game:(
I'm pretty glad the Uncharted devs are supporting the game, the new maps and skins will be a welcome addition. I need to start getting off MW2 and playing UC2 again. :D

drummernrg 04-16-10, 02:53 PM I've been playing multiplayer since the public beta, two weeks before release. I don't recall when they switched the online stats from current players online versus daily players (1.04 time frame?).
Throughout 2009, it was typical to see 4K players online at night and I think the peak I saw was around 16K online during the weekend. When the stats switched to daily players, it has been consistent from 55K/day during the week to nearly 80K/day on the weekends.
Honestly, with all of the complaints people have had since 1.04, I've not seen a significant dip in the online population -- it seems consistent.
I think online population attrition is normal as people grind to a halt towards achieving level 60 (X) or dislike 1.04+ game play changes, but they are replaced by new people world wide who have purchased the game and are moving up through the ranks.
There have been calls to return to 1.04 and give people a crushing play list option instead: I do think it may be unwise to fragment the entire population, witness how hard it can be finding DLC only folks; it happens, but not frequently.

I've been replaying Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I just got it back this week! It has been a blast to play through the Fortress and Customs House (the basis for the Fort and the Flooded Ruins U2:AT multiplayer maps) and look at it with fresh eyes.
They really tightened up the controls in U2:AT, compared to Drake's Fortune:
- you have to switch weapons to throw a grenade (that is a pain)
- weapons do not have a scope/zoom in feature (except the Dragon sniper)
- melee feels lethargic (it is really hard to pull off a brutal combo)
- Drake's reaction time seems a little slower, he doesn't move as easily
As a game player, U2:AT has improved me because I looked at my play through medals in Drake's Fortune, I:
- played through once back in 2007, on normal mode (now I can't wait to replay it on crushing)
- didn't get any stealth kills (I guess I didn't realize they existed and I think the lethargic melee played a big role here)
- didn't get 10 kills hanging from a ledge (think U2:AT Tricky medal)
- didn't get 10 kills running and gunning (I guess I didn't think about playing this way)
- didn't really go into the rewards "store" and unlock weapons or skins
Thinking back, I think I really was mesmerized by the entire experience of Drake's Fortune, because it felt like I was playing a movie and I couldn't put it down. After finishing it over a few nights one week, I immediately loaned it to a friend, telling him: "you've got to try this out!"
Now, I'm going back into it as a more experienced gamer for my Platinum Trophy (U2:AT was my first). Trophy support was added to the game after I played it in 2007.

I've been replaying Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I just got it back this week! It has been a blast to play through the Fortress and Customs House (the basis for the Fort and the Flooded Ruins U2:AT multiplayer maps) and look at it with fresh eyes.
They really tightened up the controls in U2:AT, compared to Drake's Fortune:
- you have to switch weapons to throw a grenade (that is a pain)
- weapons do not have a scope/zoom in feature (except the Dragon sniper)
- melee feels lethargic (it is really hard to pull off a brutal combo)
- Drake's reaction time seems a little slower, he doesn't move as easily
As a game player, U2:AT has improved me because I looked at my play through medals in Drake's Fortune, I:
- played through once back in 2007, on normal mode (now I can't wait to replay it on crushing)
- didn't get any stealth kills (I guess I didn't realize they existed and I think the lethargic melee played a big role here)
- didn't get 10 kills hanging from a ledge (think U2:AT Tricky medal)
- didn't get 10 kills running and gunning (I guess I didn't think about playing this way)
- didn't really go into the rewards "store" and unlock weapons or skins

They did have all the medals for hangman (shooting, and grenades). You just never went back for them because you weren't driven to have all the unlocks and Eddie's Golden Gun. When they actually added PSN trophy support many of us went back right away to get the platinum. I mean, why not enjoy it a second time through just for a trophy. I did the game in 5 runs: Hard, Crushing, and .5 Easy for the 75 kills in a row (before Trophies) and then the exact same thing after trophies. I've contemplated picking it up again, but with all the other games I just haven't found the time to really desire to play it again.
I've been playing multiplayer since the public beta, two weeks before release. I don't recall when they switched the online stats from current players online versus daily players (1.04 time frame?).
Throughout 2009, it was typical to see 4K players online at night and I think the peak I saw was around 16K online during the weekend. When the stats switched to daily players, it has been consistent from 55K/day during the week to nearly 80K/day on the weekends.
Honestly, with all of the complaints people have had since 1.04, I've not seen a significant dip in the online population -- it seems consistent.
I think online population attrition is normal as people grind to a halt towards achieving level 60 (X) or dislike 1.04+ game play changes, but they are replaced by new people world wide who have purchased the game and are moving up through the ranks.
whether it changed with the latest update or when MW2 came out or when GOWIII came it may be hard to pinpoint but I don't put much stock in the #'s that show as far as daily players ... fact is it has taken much longer recently for matchmaking to not only put you into a match (I keep commenting that if I changed my name to "Waiting for player" I'd have no problems at all) but to put you into a match that isn't less than 5 on 5.
It's beyond frustrating to sit there as the matchmaking cycles through for 10+ minutes even with backing out
I also don't believe this game is a huge worldwide hit ... most of its sales have come from NA ... the lack of a large international community does make it harder to find games late at night (at least this is when I play most of the time)
I loved the MP from day 1 and still do despite any of the tweeks but there is no doubt in my mind there has been a drop off in players
I would have loved to have seen ND give some of that initial DLC away for free to get people back into the fold

As for 1.07 yesterday. I played into the wee hours again and honestly it felt very good. The grenades still have those moments of not taking someone out, but for the most part they are much better about knocking people out or over. As for the balance to the weapons, damage, it felt much better last night. Not quite 1.04, but definately better. I was able to get into cover a lot before dying. Unfortanately it doesn't seen that they did anything with Situtational Awareness. Sigh. One can only hope.

My crew + Victor got placed against Boom, Aust, Bopper, WV and some other player. Let's just say it wasn't pretty. I (yes me), went 57-30. That is just amazing. I've never broken 50, and to break the barrier and almost break 60 was a great feeling. While the match was a disaster for them, it was all in good fun.

As for Double Points: according to Drizzle - Points Cap at 150,000 per match. Not too shabby! I can't wait to do some real point scoring tonight.

The Museum on the other hand is fantastic, a really great map, I like the placements of the plunder chests, it makes for a really tight plunder matches.
The siege mode is awesome, too. Overall, 6 bucks well spent.
joeblow 04-26-10, 10:24 AM I played all weekend for the first time since a week after completing the solo game, mainly because of the co-op DLC. What a fun pack it is.
I put in so much time that I went from Level 18 to Level 40 (I guess the 2x points helped ;)). Highrise is such a fantastic looking map; while dead I would cycle through the aerial camera shots just to enjoy the view. Hands down U2 is still the best looking game I've played.
drummernrg 04-26-10, 03:25 PM What a fun weekend! To explore new maps and figure out how to get around, learn where the weapons are, find where snipers like to camp -- all the while with friends was great. The 150K cap was icing on the cake.
The museum map just feels huge and the hi-rise map rewards vertical thinking, but man that helicopter rocket punch is brutal! :~)
It is extremely easy to be outflanked on most of the hi-rise and we were schooled by a clan of b*stard green skeletons there, but to have everything feel new again was awesome. It was a sore point, so for therapy we would go out of the way after green skeletons for the rest of the weekend.
I never shouted "Get Off of My Lawn!" so much in my life and I got to level 56. I can't believe I'm still playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer: I didn't ever think I'd get past level 50 or play past January.
Now that the weekend is over, I'm out of Plunder exclusive mode. I'll set up a custom match and explore the new maps. Who's up for some crushing objective co-op and siege medals?

Rare96ws6 04-26-10, 11:47 PM This weekend was fun with ther new maps and all. Playing was a blast, since everyone was just in it to hit the $150k mark. I put on "half loaded" and hit it many times.
The only down side is that since patch 1.07, I can't play with some of my friends. It imediately kicks one of us out when joining each other. The only way around it seems to be to have a mutual friend invite both of us, but even then we can not hear each other, although the mutual friend can hear us both.
Anyone else experience this? If so, what is the work around?

Have you tried logging off..
rebooting the PS3(helps with the mic issues too)

Rare96ws6 04-28-10, 03:05 AM Rebooting while it happened helped with one friend, but not with all of them. When replying to an invite, I can join a friend, but then imediately get kicked and end up alone in the lobby. Others have told me it has been happening to them too, so maybe it is a glitch with 1.07.
I have 2 friends that I still can't pair up with unless someone else invites both of us, one of which I can't ever hear when we do play together.

There's been community discussion in the ND forums about Title Update 1.08, but nothing has been officially declared. They are continuing to work on map glitches.
I've slowed down playing since reaching level 56 on the last double cash weekend, but the next double cash weekend will probably get me to 57. I also have a backlog of too many other games, but I still enjoy Uncharted 2 a lot.

dogdoctor 06-02-10, 12:06 PM After a mad, mad 4 days of dedication. I'm a level 60! Just in time to now have my name run around on the matchs with a big "X" for the world to see and hunt me down. Great, like I didn't have problems before.
So in short I made 17.7 Mil in 4 short days. 17.3 Was with double points. ~400K was without. :D Bummed that they had to turn it off. I was just 3 games (aka 1.5 hours in plunder) short on double points, which turned into more like 10 - 12 (aka 3 - 4 hours in plunder) once they turned it off. Bastards (ok it was only 8 hours after they said they would ;)).
1.08 UPDATE: User Findings Yesterday.
Fixed Glitches.
Can't change boosters after 3 seconds before the game. (Removes triple booster glitch).
Lvl 60, if you have it, now shows next to the username (above your head) in matches.
According to some, the aim sensitivity has been adjusted (for the better).

I totally agree they have ruined a great game and there daily player count is dropping fast.

1. grenades plain suck, but are no where near as bad as they made them. You practically had to lay a goose egg on one for it to kill you. :mad:
2. fal ammo fire rate reduced to slow down kills with it. still is a brutal weapon but not nearly as good as before. :cool:
3. Clip size of sniper is smaller. Hit detection is now 1 - hit direct body shot or head shot. 2 or more to any extremities. :confused: At least they could make a leg shot a know down to pick him off again. Nope. :rolleyes:
4. They never made a crushing playlist. They just made everyone play crushing. At one point the game was if your spotted your dead. Even if you try to get into cover. It's been reversed some, but you still die a lot faster than when the game was launched. Because of it, it has become for the most part camp and situational awareness fests. :mad:
5. spawns that are unbearable and stupid. you spawn and either at the same time (you can see them) or a fraction there of after, enemy spawns in exactly the same spawn. Alas : instant death from behind. :mad:
6. Corners of the map that are completely protected making it impossible to get people corner firing (firing with fal through the rock) at you can yet you can't hit them. Nice! :rolleyes:
7. lag, foreign server lag, until recent triple - quad boostering glitch, random drops of the connection, random splitting of parties, random splitting of parties into 2 separate games (happened to me twice), and I'm sure the list goes on...
the main one was point 4. If I wanted to die faster I would play crushing. I don't need to be forced into it with all those that like it. As a result, many, many of the casual gamers went away.

Is this just an inexperienced multiplayer dev team balancing the game into oblivion? Or do you all feel like they're just using you as "guinea pigs"/"beta testers" for Uncharted 3's MP modes?
It's really kind of surprising to see just how many changes they're still making. Why wouldn't they just leave well enough alone with just a few minor tweaks along the way? Then release DLC maps. That's what most MP devs do. Really strange.

When the game first launched there were alot of complaints about the gameplay (people able to roll through a hailstorm of bullets without a scratch...) and it seems like they've tried to change the game based on some of the complaints, but they can't please everybody. There are alot of us that loved the game at launch, but felt that there were some hit detection issues that needed to be addressed. They've somehow taken that to meaning they need to completely change the overall gameplay after they had 2 beta launches and well after the final release of the game.
PS, Dogdoctor I spent 10 min getting the new patch/updates to help you the other day and you told me I couldn't join you anyway... Ouch man.

Really strange.well to be honest they did guinea pig it. they announced a new health change weekend as a test for a crushing playlist. that weekend was brutal. but it was just a weekend. I about turned off the game for the weekend at that time. so the weekend came and went. then a poll went up about did you like it. apparently the vote was like 51% in favor, 49% against. but I guess the "majority" voted for the game change and that is when the health and power of the weapons started changing around. What sucks is that 49% of the people didn't like the changes and many of those folks after about a few weeks, just quit. The daily player numbers dropped off dramatically and getting into full rooms, good games, just became a very inconsistent thing of the past.
I've kept at it, but it's been more of a chore with some good times. before it was all good times and kicking back.
So yes, they did guinea pig us at times, and then they went ahead and made changes that nearly 50% of their fan base disliked. Not a smart move in my book. But who am I to say.

Reviews barely touched on the multiplayer features. The single player game was so heavily praised that there wasn't a lot of talk pre-launch or post-launch about the multiplayer stuff. I think they're gearing up to go against the big boys (Halo, CoD, Gears).
Seems like they're using you all to try and get it as perfect as possible for Uncharted 3. But the problem is that if they don't call it a "beta," they end up souring their most dedicated fan-base (you) in the process of constant iteration/balancing--especially if they're testing some major changes. Seems like ND is taking advantage of the relatively small (but very dedicated) online fanbase for Uncharted 2. I'm sure they know that if they were to set up separate "beta" servers, they wouldn't be able to test their tweaks on big enough numbers. Not cool. :rolleyes:
For all the complaints about "it should have been released as DLC," this is exactly why Capcom released Super Street Fighter 4 as a totally separate game from Street Fighter 4. You don't go in and start messing with the balancing of a completed online game, other than to fix very small balancing issues, glitches, and egregious exploits.
As for me, I loved the co-op features in Uncharted 2. It's by far my favorite co-op experience. But because they started focusing so much on the competitive stuff, I lost interest and haven't played it in a while. Have they done similar tweaks to the co-op game?

They added a new co-op mode siege in a DLC. You have to stay in circle and fight off bad guys until the 10th round. As for Double Points weekend. Max $ value was upped to 250K per users for co-op only. Rest of MP was capped at 150K.

dogdoctor 06-05-10, 11:34 PM not recently, I would try deleting game data and reinstalling. Some folks had MP issues after the 1.08 update and needed to do the same to fix so it's worth a shot.

Best bet is to party up with 1-2 of your friends and complete it as a custom game on the setting of your choice. Custom games count towards trophies in co-op objective.
Some kind of pub would be great for co-op mode but that's beside the point.
Put on your bluetooth mic and party up! I've met a few fellow AVSers playing U2:AT multiplayer, it's been a blast.

I updated to 1.08 and played a few games last night, some of the Naughty Dog developers were playing online. I missed playing with them, though.

I'll be happy to help you get some medals. I think I'm at 71% of the DLC medals and I've completed all of the co-op, but I really enjoy that mode. We need to figure out how to wrangle out 250K from it on Crushing. The only hint I've seen is that you need to use the dropped weapons from the enemies to increase the points you get per kill and maximize the medals (revival, treasure hunter, purple heart, etc.)

Good idea. Also if you create a custom game is it only for your buddies or can you throw it out there and wait for random peeps to join in? I never tried custom game for some reason...

Rare96ws6 06-15-10, 07:43 PM To get the 250k in co-op, you have to kill each and revive each other over and over to get a bunch of "medic" medals. That is how I have seen people get high $$ in co-op. I go for points when I play co-op and usually end up with 50-60k a match which is fine with me. I did most of my leveling in co-op, so I am in the top 275 world wide. I just hit level 58 and want to push to 60 as quickly as possible. For those that don't klnow, it takes about as much experience($$) to get from level 58-60 as it did to get from level 1-57!!! Insane;)
I have most of the medals from the DLC's but still need half of the "protectorate" medals from plunder matches, a bunch of Tricky's" and some "BBQ's" to get 100%. I think I am at 91%, but want to get 100%

Along with launching “The Lab” for the weekend this morning, many of you noticed that the level cap has been increased beyond 60 (X). This now makes the maximum level attainable currently in UNCHARTED 2 is now 80 and is designated by an in-game badge which uses the roman numerals XXX. You can check out the full set of level badges on our Flickr photostream.
Each level beyond 60 requires accumulating $15,000,000 in cash to level up and that stays consistent throughout 61 to 80. That means you will need to accumulate a total of $362,965,500 to hit level 80.
If you had already hit level 60 (and hopefully kept playing) – there is some good news for you. With the level cap raise, you’ll automatically be brought up to the level that is appropriate to the total cash you’ve accumulated up to that point. That means you could come back to your profile to a higher level in recognition of all the hard work you’ve been putting in playing UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer, even though you had already hit level 60.
Increasing the maximum level has let us create a couple rewards to the players who have continued to play multiplayer. Hitting level 70 (XX) and level 80 (XXX) will unlock one new villain skin at each of those levels for purchase within the in-game store – Blaine is available at level 70 (XX) and Dutch is available at level 80 (XXX). We’ve also put up screenshots of both skins on our Flickr photostream. You may recognize both characters are mercenary characters from UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune, which we’ve updated to UNCHARTED 2 models and graphical standards specifically for the level cap increase. Blaine and Dutch are completely exclusive rewards to players who gain levels 70 and 80 respectively.
In addition, later today we’ll be increasing the per-match cash cap to $75,000 to make reaching these highest levels just a bit more within reach. We’ve also got plenty of Double Cash weekends planned for the future.
On a side note… as far as rising the level cap without warning – we had originally scheduled to make this change next week and planned to give everyone an ample heads-up about the level cap increase. Unfortunately, due to some miscommunication, that was not the case and the update went out without any warning.
I’m not thrilled that I wasn’t able to communicate this change to our community ahead of time – I know that being surprised by something significant like this doesn’t feel good and can really feel unfair. The bottom line is that you should know as much as you can – and that we’re able to provide – about any game changes or updates before they happen as soon as possible. I’ll be doing all I can to make sure we don’t surprise you again.

The next time you log in to UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer you’ll notice that your character selection choices in your multiplayer profile have changed significantly – but only for a limited time… more on that later. You have a smaller pool of characters skins to choose from, but you’ll have 16 different versions of Drake and Flynn to choose from in the Heroes and Villians selections. Those 16 versions represent the countries whose soccer teams have made it to the second round in South Africa as of today.
Since we’ve been seeing so many displays of team support across the Internet and on forums, we thought it would be cool to extend that show of fan support within UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer.
So for a limited time – for two weeks or until about Monday, July 12, 2010 – you’ll be able to choose Heroes and Villians skins with the following country uniforms:

Mexico
Argentina
South Korea
United States
England
Germany
Ghana
Netherlands
Japan
Paraguay
Slovakia
Brazil
Portugal
Spain
Chile
In order to have all these characters available, we’ve had to temporarily remove some of the characters from the selection screen. We’ve done this to ensure that all the characters that are available through paid DLC are still available.
There is one piece of bad news here though – the newly added characters of Blaine and Dutch will be among those that will be temporarily inactive for the next couple of weeks.
I wanted to close out with some good news related to “The Lab” and the level cap increase, both of which went active earlier today. Along with this live update for the characters, we’ve also removed the Pistole from the “The Lab” so that “Sniper Extermination” is exactly that – Dragon Sniper only matches. A global per-match cash cap increase to $75,000 will also take effect when you log in next to multiplayer.
I’ll be trying to put in as much time playing “The Lab” as I can – I hope to see some of you online.

Thanks to some of the changes above, we’ll be issuing a LiveData update that will rescale Medal cash awards in Objective games ONLY. For matches which fall under the Objective modes, cash for individual and kill-based medals have been decreased in value, while cash for Objective based medals have been increased as follows:

* Captured – $4,000
* That’s Embarrassing – $10,000
* Protectorate – $2,000
* No Cigar – $2,000
* Drop It – $1,000

Put on Deposit, score five captures with a shut-out (to get the "That Was Embarrassing!" medal), and you'll get at least 60K in a Plunder match: that's most of the way to the $75,000 cap.
Plunder is much more focused on the objectives as a result, but the camping at the treasure chest has increased, too, since "No Cigar!" is worth a lot. The matches have been more work when the teams are closely matched. Still, it feels weird to get $2 a kill and the Badges of Honor don't really count for much, so I've started leaving them off.
Naughty Dog is hinting they might rebalance the cash rewards for medals and objectives in other game modes.
Let's see, two other stories to share:
1) The Lab: Grenades Only -- Deathmatch for 15 minutes with unlimited ammo. I may live in California, but I'm not used to the continually shaking earthquakes during game play. It was lots of fun and pure mayhem, but I couldn't play it for more than a few matches in a row.
2) Played a team of mostly top 200 leader board players in Plunder (one was level 48, the others were all above level 62), they were a pain since they really covered the map with deadly lines of fire from everywhere. It was a military like exercise in outflanking and precise shooting against us. When some of the teammates started adjusting the game and bringing them down with kills, I think two quit since the KDR was changing drastically.
We lost the plunder 2-3 after losing one player early and they lost two players later during the match. I doubt everyone had network connection errors, but it's not impossible. Still, a level 62+ was using Situational Awareness...sigh.
I still can't believe I'm playing this game on and off! :~)

We hope the last two months of “The Lab” have been fun for all of you – from 2 vs. 2 Team Deathmatch to Plunder with pistols only to the explosive chaos of Grenades Only. We’ve been having a blast ourselves – no pun intended.
If you’re new to “The Lab,” welcome! “The Lab” is a special playlist we will be running for a limited time on designated weekends, roughly every other weekend. You can access “The Lab” playlist within the set of playlists found in Matchmaking in UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer. During each weekend “The Lab” is active, we’ll be running a specialized playlist featuring one or more custom-tuned gametype variations from the tons of variables we can tweak in our multiplayer gameplay settings.
We’ll also be hosting a new thread for every event on the Naughty Dog community forums to get your feedback and thoughts on each one of our “The Lab” events.
August has only two weekends of “The Lab” in store for all of us. They are:

Co-Op Crushing
Think you’ve mastered all of our Co-op modes? Give this episode of “The Lab” a try – we’ve lowered the health to Crushing levels in a selection of Co-op Objective and Co-op Arena maps.

No Power Weapons
Can you still dominate with the basic tools of UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer? During this weekend of “The Lab” we’ll be running Team Deathmatch but you’ll discover that all power weapons are absent on the selected maps. That means no weapons like the M-32 Hammer, GAU-19, SAS-12, Pistole, and more, will be available for pickup.
