Awesome... I was trying to watch the Boston/Orlando game earlier before the patch on justintv but it didn't work. I just tried to tune into the Miami game after the patch and it works perfectly. :)

and now the real question:

What does it do/fix?

It's a Flash update. Better playback, more compatibility with web video links and a full screen option.

I just tried Hulu... I was able to watch 5 minutes of 24: Redemption with no issues. I switched it to "HD", which is only 480P, and then clicked full screen. It only gave me 1/4th the screen, but I just zoomed in with R2.

For those curious. This is from Sony's official blog.

Hi everyone, in the next PS3 firmware update (v2.53), coming soon, we’re improving the way the Flash Player works with the internet browser. In addition to being able to access more sites using Flash, you’ll be able to enjoy:

* Full-screen mode playability
* Live movie (using RTMP format) playability

Now it’s going to be even easier to enjoy web content on your PS3, in full-screen!

Pandora's awesomeness is now "forced upon us".

So now after almost 2yrs the PS3's browser is slightly less than awful, but still unusable. You would think they'd just give up on it already and license it from someone who knows what they are doing, like Firefox or Opera?

pandora worked for me on 2.52.

Does anyone else find the flash video performance full screen absolutely horrible? It's behaving like there is zero hardware acceleration going on with a super jumpy framerate and obvious speed up as soon as you go back to the in window version.

Huge boo on CBC for only supporting Windows Media. . .so much for watching hockey games on the PS3.

Cheers

Odd. Pandora, nor Hulu worked for me although other people have reported that it worked in 2.52. Whatever happened, it works for me now. I'm a happy camper :)

Full screen Hulu and sport video sites work for me with no issues (except for the "HD" full screen problem I mentioned above from one site). I guess people's experiences will vary.

The latest firmware of the Playstation 3 adds full screen functionality to embedded Flash videos in the web browser. More websites will now show the correct content.

New Playstation 3 firmware enables full screen Flash (http://www.hdtvinfo.eu/news/game-consoles/new-playstation-3-firmware-enables-full-screen-flash.html)

always like to see improvements, but i have a PC for this.

what I want to see is better remote play functions, and a slew of other things far more important then a flash player.

But, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Well, for people who don't have their PC hooked to the big screen TV, this improvement allows them to sit on the couch and enjoy web videos. In fact, my PC is connected to my HDTV, but not having to lean over to use my mouse to browse is a bonus when using the PS3 for stuff like this.

I like that the options are there, but I agree that I would much prefer improved Remote Play capability vs. watching web-sized videos blown up on my really nice TV.

I was able to get hulu to display a full 16:9 screen by clicking the pop-out button first.

I run Opera based browser on Wii and hardly any media sites will run like hulu, gametrailers videos,1upshow all wont run. While at least on ps3 those sites run or u at least have the option to dl the video.

It fixed my problem with the Rock Band 2 drum kit after I had updated the software for the game last week.

Does this work for the major broadcasters like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox?

Worked great for me last night on cbs.com. I watched part of an episode of CSI and was impressed with the quality of the video. Granted, it is streaming from a website, but it wasn't any more jumpy than my PC. I'm loving the improvement.

I do, however, wish they would farm out their browser to somebody and get us a fully functional browser worthy of the PS3 awesomeness!

before 2.53 hulu didn't "really" work for me, if i changed to 480p from 360p or skipped ahead or whatever everything would just freeze, but this has fixed it completely, watched the three amigos last night :D

but when i went to fox's website to see if they had any earlier seasons of house to watch, their player wouldn't load up, just the revolving circle thing that went on forever.

all in all, i've very pleased with this update :)

Just updated, for some reason, Hulu now won't work properly. It's VERY laggy. Before the update it was watchable, now it won't play hardly at all. Man this update sucks. Why doesn't Sony just get Opera or someone else to design the browser?

I'm having problems playing back my HD video content that I recorded to my PC via comcast cable box and IEEE 1394 fire wire. It appears now that the PS3 plays .TS files with audio just fine now.

The only problem is that it DOESN'T play all my converted .MPG (ps) files anymore with sound!!! Complete filp flop and role reversal. Go figure. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
