Looks like Fallout 3 might have a little competition for GOTY... and it's a PS2 game!

:p:cool: lol

I might check this out once I'm done with all of my games that I have now. I'm on pursuit to collecting the classic PS2 games that I didn't pick up.

You're not a HS student in this game, that was Persona 3.

So did anyone pick it up yet? Still waiting for my copy to get here from Amazon...

I'm waiting for confirmation that the 80gigs are compatible with it. It's not in that database on Sony's site yet.

Why only PS2 anyway? Is this what gran turismo 5 is gonna be like? Coming out for ps3 when we are a couple years into ps4? :p

I wanted to play P3, but that whole "shoot yourself to unleash superpowers" thing was too off-putting for me. Is it still in P4?

PS2 has a slightly larger userbase than PS3 :)

PS2 has a slightly larger userbase than PS3 :)Larger userbase of people buying brand new games? I wouldn't have guessed. I don't doubt you but I'd be curious to see the numbers for brand new games sold to see that ps2 numbers for any games trump ps3 numbers. I would imagine that developing for ps2 is cheaper and the userbase is still high enough that the combination of cheap development and userbase makes it as profitable or more profitable, but I definitely wouldn't have thought that the userbase for purchasing new releases is higher for ps2.

A good comparison might be to compare total fallout 3 sales (360 + ps3) to the sales of this game. (Combined 360/ps3 since this game was compared to fallout 3 as GOTY potential and since if it went to ps3, we can assume that it would be an exclusive (since it is now)). Not a great comparison, but should give a rough idea.

Couldn't say. Obviously, this isn't quite relevant, but it 3 of the 10 highest-selling games last year were on the PS2. Guitar Hero 3 for the PS2 was #4; the 360 version wasn't even on the list. Same for Madden. I'm not sure where to find sales numbers for 2008 so far; I think we'll have to wait a little longer and revisit the theory. Atlus seems to think it's worth it, and they're doing just fine. Persona 3 apparently did well enough for them to keep the sequel on the same system.

Comparing the sales of Fallout 3 to Persona 4 is meaningless, it's a much more main stream game and it's on 3 different platforms. I say it's a GOTY contender based on the extremely high review scores it's been getting across the board which rivals those of that other high scoring RPG that came out this year, Fallout 3.

No, it's not.

Also I was wrong about this game not taking place in HS, it does.

hum maybe Sony has got it right, the ps3 is not going up against the wii and 360. the 360 and wii are going up against the ps2 and getting crushed. Sony has already announced over 100 ps2 titles for 09 and next year it will be at 99 selling like popcorn at every walmart and kmart in the country during xmas.
will probably be 2010 before Sony finally drops it and starts using the ps3 as their opp(opening price point) machine.

There is no good comparison for this game. This game is a niche title. Anyone who really wants it is going to get it, despite the fact that it's on PS2.

Look at all the FPS'ers in an RPG thread! LOL! I'm about 10 hours in and if you like RPGs of any kind, you are missing the boat if you don't try this. People are saying the game is still engaging 90 hours in. I know I'm hooked.

Actually the real reason I stopped by is to see if anyone was having BC issues w/P4. The game has frozen on me a couple times and I'm hoping that the small scratches are the cause and NOT compatibility issues (60g launch console here). Just in case, I've had GF send me a replacement. *crossing fingers*. I so don't want to dust off the PS2 and start over.

If you have a 60gig, shouldn't there be zero BC issues?

There are some games that don't like the "full BC" ps3. Something like 200 or so titles. Looking for the list. EDIT: Here's a list of issues.....(post #24)

Don't see Persona 4 there so I'm may be in luck....

I've been playing this on my 60 gig with no issues. And by playing, I mean that I sat through something like 2 hours worth of introduction/exposition material and I'm now FINALLY getting in to the meat of the game. It is a heck of a good RPG once you get to actually do things, but my god does it ever suffer from "we're making an interactive movie" syndrome for the first part part of the game. When are designers going to realize that we buy games to "play" them, not watch them?

LOL. Yea, the first couple hours was hitting X through dialog! Oh yea, good news: Got another copy today from gamefly sans scratches and its playing perfectly. *knocks on wood floor*

I just finished playing this over the weekend and I thought that it was a fairly fun RPG experience.

It did seem like the combat/social interaction balance was a bit more heavily slanted towards the later than the former, though. In Persona 3, it felt like more of a 50/50 split, but in Persona 4 it seemed like I spent 75% of my time doing S-links and only 25% in dungeons (even including the extra dungeon involved in the "true" ending).

Also, Persona 4 seemed *a lot* easier than Persona 3. Part of that is probably just because you can now control your teammates' actions (so they no longer spam elemental break spells until they're out of SP, like they did in Persona 3), but I also think that the game is just easier in general. There were only maybe 3 boss fights in P4 that I would consider challenging, and there was at least double that number in P3 (not to mention the utterly ridiculous 90 minute final boss fight in P3--God, that sucked).

Personally, I don't find the decrease in difficulty as such a bad thing, but some folks might object.

It certainly is good value for the money, though. It took me about 75 hours to beat it, and I'll probably play through it again because I didn't even come close to maxing out all of the S-links.
