Hello, friends - I am new here & mostly a audio / speaker guy, but, I do a little with video too. I have a question I'd think someone here has resolved before, though a search of the forum didn't turn up a lot.
I have a Samsung DVD-R120 that, until now, I have only used for very occaisional playback purposes, but, more recently I have begun recording with it. JVC 1-8x DVD-R discs work fine, but, when I went to newer 1-16x discs of various brand names (including TDK), when I load the disc I get the message: "This disc can be neither played nor recorded. Please check the disc. [EC:0207]"
Some web research indicated that a firmware update might be needed, but, the firmware update I found on Samsung's site appears to not be any newer than the date of manufacture of the recorder. (Late 2005.)
Now, I talked to Samsung Customer Support this a.m., and eventually got kicked up to a "Tier 3" support rep (ie., someone who in general actually has a clue.) She advised me to hold off on the firmware update, until "Support" can find someone (an engineer?) who knows what the update actually does. Apparently nothing she can find easily actually says what the firmware update is intended to do, and it'd be better to not cause some other problem... I am supposed to call back tomorrow.
Does anyone else have some experience with this? Thanks!
