I am not sure how it works, if the problem is the box or the software, but my current HD DVR box keeps recording repeat shows even thou I set the option to record only new shows. I also set a limit to keep only 5 recording of a certain show, but it doesn't work, just keeps adding more recordings.

I remember an older box I had that allowed me to set the exact show to record, like for example, 30 rock, only on thursday at 9pm. That way it wouldn't record repeats and alternative show times.

Does it make sense?
Is there a way to improve it?

Pretty much my goals are:
- Be able to record only new episodes of a series
- Don't record alternative times, like the same shows repeats later in the same day.

man i have the exact same problem. i have a motorola dch-3416. don't understand it. for example i set it to record NEW episodes of robot chicken, records every single airing. same with south park. and when I set it to record new Xplay shows, I get all new plus all repeats throughout the day. really annoying. have to either clean up my DVR nightly or remember to record only the new shows which is really annoying and defeats the pupose of a DVR i.e. automatically recording based on your settings.
I have the exact same problem and would love to hear of a solution! Are these Motorola boxes just P.O.S.'s? I also have the HDMi issue where it resets and letterboxes HD content every time my TV turns off...
