I have this dream of mounting a flatscreen in front of my treadmill so that while jogging I can surf the web with a remote handheld trackball. (I tried this with a computer resting on a table and it actually works in terms of being able to read while running.)

Should I purchase a computer monitor LCD or would an HD TV work just as well? It would be nice to watch TV on this screen eventually, of course, but I can't get a cable to that location at the moment.

Go for the HDtv. More versitle and prices have come way down. You can pick up a nice basic unit to meet your needs at Costco for under $1000.
