View Full Version : Anybody here cares about Trophies on first playthrough?
I don't pay attention to the list of trophies when I first play a game that supports them. I kinda like when I am playing and randomly get prompted that I got a trophy though, you know getting a trophy without trying to get a trophy:cool:.
Trophies really don't have any kind of value, so their is no need to go crazy for them just yet, when they are given some kind of Value (HOME items) I can maybe see myself really trying to go after trophies.
Woodrow 12-03-08, 12:10 PM I like the random trophies. I'll probably start trying to acquire trophies at some point but for now I'm happy to just get lucky.

But I do agree. What I don't like, though, is Trophies coming in patch form a la Burnout Paradise. I've got a crap load of hours into that game already and am certainly not starting over just to get some pixel bronze. I never really pay attention on the first play though, though, either. I got trophies during LBP and had no idea what they were for. I'm more concerned with unlocking the content in a game like that.
bryansj 12-03-08, 12:23 PM I'm still trying to finish my first playthrough of GTA4. No way in hell am I starting over just to earn some trophies. If I'm going to earn them then the game needs to ship with them.
TyrantII 12-03-08, 12:35 PM Short answer NO.
I'd rather get the full expereince of the game first, and worry about that dessert later.
That said, I tend to play on the Hard difficulty available off the back, since it's more challenging and fun for me, plus it was usually required for unlockables anyways, and now more so for trophy's.
Right now CODW@W Veteran is kicking my private 1st class ass...
imdjenk 12-03-08, 12:40 PM +1, trophies don't do much for me either but the ones I get by accident are cool.
cabbageheat 12-03-08, 03:15 PM Don't quite understand the appeal of trophies. So, no, I usually just get them by accident. And they are usually so bizarre, that I find them to be a waste of time.
ThisOneKidMongo 12-03-08, 03:39 PM I don't understand the appeal of trophies/achivements/whatever either...they just seem like artificial goals to extend play time. I appreciate funny or pleasingly appropriate trophies (beating Sagat w/ Ryu's dragon punch = trophy = awesome), but otherwise, meh.
MaxDam77 12-03-08, 03:47 PM Honestly I couldn't care less about the trophies in most games. But depending on the game, some are actually fun trying to get. It helps if the game is fun too. I''m on my 3rd run on Dead Space. For the first time, I plan to go platimun for this one.
On the first play, I don't pay attention to it.
only game I'd gladly replay after a trophy patch is MGS4.
If I really like the game, I go for the trophies (like Burnout and SSHD). Otherwise they are just neat little perks.
bdoyledimou 12-03-08, 04:01 PM Until trophy collection = tangible reward (exchangeable for otherwise chargeable PSN content)i don't need them.

I think they are working on giving some sort of special items in HOME for trophies gained in other games. Hopefully that will morph into PSN store credit instead.
KingShorty 12-03-08, 06:39 PM I don't think it'll be PSN credit as much as it'll be HOME credit.

That's exactly what they are. In some cases they add a factor of replayability to games. For instance, some of the GTA4 achievements are really random, but I had a lot of fun (and wasted much time) trying for some of them. It's not like they are anything new, games have included little optional tasks like collecting items or performing optional stunts for a long time before achievements existed.

Yeah. That'll be okay, too; I'd rather use trophy points or whatever they call them to get gear in Home than pay them actual money.

Ditto.

I think that will happen as well.
If a trophy is not too hard or time-consuming to get, then I'll try to get it on the first play through. I think trophies are cool overall; they definitely add more replayability to a game.
mcjasonb 12-04-08, 09:25 PM i don't pay any attention to them. if i get one, then cool. but i don't try to get them.

will they add trophy support?

That's not right! Sony would be discriminating against those of us that are video game challenged! Discrimination is WRONG! People, ALL PEOPLE, need to be more accepting and tolerant to those who aren't blessed with the same gifts and skills as others! My entire family (almost) has been stricken with the "game video sucks, don't you dare bring that crap online, gene (chromosone). It's frickin' DNA!! We can't change it. Sony needs to seriously rethink their intentions for the future. I don't think they want to piss off this extremely large demographic of gamers.
