Hey guys, I have a similiar thread in the audio forum because I wasn't sure where is the best place to place this.

All of the info is in the thread I just posted above, but the general help I need is to figure out what I need to buy in order to play my PS3/360 on my brand new monitor. Is it possible for me to have sound if I chose the HDMI->DVI route? Please help me because I just wasted some money and time after buying a product that did not work.

Thanks in advance!

I have an HDMI to DVI cable but I'd never tried hooking my PS3 up to the monitor before. Assuming the monitor supports HDCP I'd see no reason it shouldnt work (I dont know if mine is or not)? And then either run the stereo wires from the Sony dongle or use the optical to get audio.

If I have time later tonight I may try to hook it up just to see if it works?

I suppose that it is fine for me to run audio through composite or component cables into my speakers if I go on with HDMI -> DVI? Would this exact set up also work for my 360?

Thanks for your quick reply.

I dont see why it wouldnt work for both assuming that the monitor and PS3/X360 can negotiate the HDCP handshake. Best bet is to try it and see if it works. Video will be the hardest thing to do and if you can get that to go audio should be a piece of cake!

I currently have my PS3 connected to my Hitachi 57SWX20B CRT rear projection TV via a $3 DVI->HDMI cable from Monoprice. Great picture for both gaming and BD. Audio is run from PS3 to Panny SA-HE100 receiver via TOSLink. This provides perfectly good 5.1/6.1 surround sound, but no Dolby TrueHD or DTS-MA.

Next acquisition will likely be an Onkyo 606, which I'll connect to the PS3 via a regular HDMI cable. The TV will be connected to the receiver via the HDMI->DVI cable, but the audio will be decoded in the PS3 and sent to the receiver as multi-channel LPCM over HDMI.

It works. I too currently have my PS3 connected to my HD-Ready Mits TV which supports DVI with HDCP. All I needed was an HDMI to DVI adapter which I got from Monoprice. I route the sound via optical from my pSR to my AVR.

The key thing is that your monitor must support HDCP in its DVI input otherwise your are SOL.
