View Full Version : My PS3 is randomly beeping.

I wonder if anybody else is having this "problem". It all started when I initially had my PS3 hooked up via a wireless connection. It would seem that when the connection was interrupted, I would hear this one second "beep", or more like a tone signal.

When I play MLB08:The Show, I hear this very frequently throughout the game. It seems random, but it's more likely to happen when I pause the game or when the goals are being detailed in RttS. I've heard the beep a handful of times when not playing the game, but it's more likely to happn when playing The Show.

I've now moved my wireless router and cable modem into the same room and hooked it up via an ethernet cable. Still, in "The Show" I hear this beep whenever it seems to try and connect to the network. Just now, my roommate went to set up his PSN UserID and when it went to connect it made the same beep.

What the hell does this beep mean? I've looked EVERYWHERE online and can't figure it out. I've tried contacting Sony, but I can't get a human being. Is it just my system, or is it a known thing?

Sounds like Sony will be sending me a new PS3. Hopefully There's no waiting period before they send me one as I am on vacation for the month and will be PISSED if I'm without it during that time.

I called Sony and they said that it's probably the PS3 emitting a beep when it gets disconnected from the Network for one reason or another. They told me that unless there are functionality issues, they won't accept it for repair. So I'll just have to deal with the "beep" and learn to ignore it. :(

Lol. Well, the machine still functions very well and the beep is only noticeable during times where the system is doing network stuff. I'll try doing a full reboot of the system (power off in the back) and see if it helps. Once I went to the full wired connection, the frequency did drop quite a bit. Let's just hope that when/if it does fail it does so under warranty.

Yes, beep some harsh and UNCENSORED words at it, maybe it'll stop... or maybe it'll like it?

I would tell them something is wrong with it. I wouldn't put up with that beeping and they shouldn't tell you too either.
