Thought I would share a humorous story with all of you.

Yesterday I went into my local electronic big box store to purchase the latest in the Narnia series and had the following conversation with one of the sales staff.

Staff-Hello is there anything I can help you with today?

Me-No I'm just looking, but thank you anyway.

Staff-All right then if you need anything I'll be nearby.

Me-(First mistake for continuing conversation with small talk) Wow that is a pretty good price on that plasma (a 42" Panasonic 1080p for 899.00).

Staff-Yes it is are you thinking of something like this for the holidays?

Me-No, I already have a flat panel display I'm happy with I just bought last year from here the day after Christmas.

Staff-You should see Blu-Ray on this TV it is amazing.

Me-I know how good HD can look I have a HD-DVD player hooked up to my display and the picture is fantastic.

Staff-I hate to be the bearer of bad news but did you know that the format war was over and HD-DVD lost and now it is only Blu-Ray?

Me-Really? I had no idea are you sure? (Before he could answer) I know I'm well aware of the result of the format war and realize Blu-Ray is the winner. I just not ready to give up my HD-DVD yet and can't bring myself to go Blu-Ray yet. In fact if I do go Blu I'll wait until Oppo comes out with their Blu-Ray player.

Staff-Oh, ok. Who is Oppo?

Me-A highly rated electronics manufacturer of DVD player.

Staff-Never heard of them.

Me-Thanks for your help. Have a great day.

Staff-No problem.

Just thought this was funny. Maybe I have a weird sense of humor or something but thought I'd share anyway. I know most of us here have similar stories of salespeople we have encountered at the electronics, and home improvement stores.

Most importantly to those who did not know HD-DVD lost the war and it is now only Blu.

Consider this a PSA.

Regards,

RTROSE

P.S. Just thought about the mods moving this thread to the HD-DVD forum due to the title of the thread. Please don't move mods. This is meant for the enjoyment of my AVS friends here in the dedicated thread. Thanks. :D

I feel your pain.

One of my favorite things to do is go out to the local big box store and listen to their sales people talk to their customers. Some of the stuff coming out of their ill-trained mouths just make me laugh so hard!!

I agree. I try to avoid those places as much as possible. They just make me angry.

You should go back and ask for their best VHS player. :)

That's almost as funny as posting a completely unrelated topic in the dedicated theater forum. ;):D

cant help but to post this...

2 years ago I was at BB looking at RPTV's...one of the salespeople told me that the picture would be better on the tv if I used HDMI connectors because the HDMI module in my cable box actually would scale the signal...then came the monster cable sales pitch...

I was to surprised to say anything witty..but I think about that everytime I am in BB and hear someone say the buzzword "truehd" or "fullhd"

Well, that's not really an innacurate statement (Other than it's a VP not an HDMI module).
