I have an old HK AVR80 receiver that just keeps working, but it has no dolby digital decoders, only pro-logic, so I'm just using 2 channel dvd output for surround. Are there dvd players still available with 5.1 analog output for DTS & Dolby Digital?

It looks like the majority of players with 5.1 analog output use it for dvd-audio playback only, not DTS & DD. For example, see HK DVD-48
& Oppo players.

The Onkyo DV-SP504 might be suitable, but not sure...

Anyone still running old-school receivers out there?

Suggestions appreciated!

Oppo DVD players support 5.1 audio on their analog outputs for DVD video including DTS and DD. I'm using that to my 6 year old Denon 5.1 receiver with the 5.1 analog input port. It also supports 5.1 DD or DTS thru optical and coax too.

My old Panasonic CV50 had the outputs. A friend of mine has it now and it still runs like the day I had it out of the box, and we're both regular DVD viewers. It wasn't progressive scan, though. Rock solid reliability, and they're still around on eBay.

I don't think it did DTS, though, but definitely had onboard Dolby Digital.

If you're thinking of upgrading to BR, last years Sony 300 BR player had 5.1 outputs. Not this years 350 though. I've regularly seen the 300 clearanced below $200. It's built like a tank and is quite large and I've been told it's very slow on startup.

Three great ways to play right now:

The Pioneer Elite DV-48AV has analog 5.1 outputs and will play DVD, DVD-Audio and SA-CD. $99 at Vanns.com. (I own this player)

The Panasonic BD-P55 Will play DVD and Blue Ray and has 5.1/7.1 Analog outputs. Unlike cheaper Blu-Ray players it will access and decode all the advanced lossless soundtracks on Blue-Ray discs. (Dolby True HD and DTS HD) Available for $350 or so. ( I don't own this player.)

The Samsung 2500/2550 similar to the Panasonic but there may be an firmware update required to decode the DTS HD. As a bonus the Samsung will allow access to Netflix on demand via a connection to the internet. Under $400. (I don't own this player.)

Long shot. The Oppo BDP-83 is not for sale and doesn't have a price. Oppo has suggested that it will play ....Blu-Ray, DVD, SA-CD, DVD-Audio, CD and will have analog outputs for all audio formats available on those various discs. (I want this player!)
