I have a 1080p display and a 720p display. I want to split or switch the output from my hdmi reciever. I would ideally like to split the signal, but I am unsure how the splitter will handle a 1080p source going to a 720p display. Or would a switch be a better soulution, because I could run either 720p or 1080p signal from the source, depending on what display I was using.

Any advise?

A digital display will take an incoming resolution and scale it to the native resolution of the the display. e.g sending 720p to a 1920x1080 display will cause the display to scale the incoming signal to 1920x1080. The 1280x720 display should do the same (scale down) with a 1080p signal but does this display accept 1080p?

If you only want to use one display at a time, the switch is the way to go.

720p Display does not accept 1080p. I should have stated that above, that is important.

Can you make a recomedation on a switch?
