View Full Version : Sirius on iPhone?
stepmback 12-04-08, 03:12 PM Any word on when this app is going to be coming out. I read a couple of articles on the web that said Thanksgiving, but no work when that holiday came and went.
And yes I know I can use jailbreak and can use non-jailbreak with uSirius, which I am. But I want an approved application that does not make me connect to my own server and stream it that way.
cluemanti 12-07-08, 03:01 PM Haven't heard about anything new with this, interested also in updated info.
Doug Schiller 12-08-08, 01:52 PM Yep, all the sites say coming soon or beta testing.
Beta testing what?
It is a freaking internet stream, not the cure for cancer.
ricky_rocket 12-17-08, 06:44 PM You could just open a browser on the iPhone and launch the player from www.sirius.com. You don't get the option of every channel via the browser (just many of the popular ones) but that is a temporary solution that would work - wouldn't it ?

This didn't work with the older versions (I have an i-touch) and downloaded orb and usirius which worked great, but had to have the home pc on and logged in to both. When orb crashed, so did my connection.
I ended up buying a stilleto 2.

I'm pretty sure sirius.com uses flash which the incredible shrinking man from Apple corp doesn't want to include on his magic phone yet.

This is correct. Also, the Starplayr app for iPhone was released in beta yesterday. Hopefully it won't be long for general release.
imromo24 01-15-09, 10:19 PM i was reading something about it getting to apple for review by 1-31, but after that it depends on how long they take to get it in the app store. yes it is in beta, several people got ahold of it.
One guy I asked said he was listening to the wifi connection with the app for 8 hours on one battery charge, that sounds amazing to me.

That sounds promising. How reliable is this info?
8 hours would be awesome. When I use Orbcast, I can listen for about 1.5 hrs then phone battery is dead.
imromo24 01-28-09, 01:22 PM just a post from a guy who had a beta version on another forum, using wifi. There may be a difference if it was a data stream over the cell phone system though.
did you see the app might come out next week?
I used orb too on my insinct and it was about 1.5 hours too. But i read that its because the phone has to convert the audio versus the application or something and it takes power to run the chips (just trying to explain something i read) The app itself should help with this power usage.

The online Sirius site uses Shockwave and orb send the file in a format that the iPhone has to convert..... so it is the conversion that is killing the battery. I can listen to Pandora for hours and no issues...
I heard theree was a guy on Howard Stern the other day talking about the StarPlayer app coming out. Did not hear this week though... but that would be great. Barring it being $50, I will buy it..... hopefully it will be free, but have to see.
fletch999 02-02-09, 04:02 PM The app was submitted to Apple over the weekend per the developers website. It will be released as soon as Apple approves it.
www.starplayr.com
Go to the forums and find the iPhone section, its there. Have not seen any indication as to price. The apps from the same developer for windows mobile and desktops are free.
Doug Schiller 02-03-09, 02:58 PM It's to hyped to be given away for free.
I'm betting a $4.99 price.
I've been waiting for this app but since I will cancel soon, its sad I won't be able to try it.
