I just upgraded to the Vip722 from the Vip622. On my Vip622 remote for TV1 (only have 1 TV) I was able to set the AUX to control my Denon AVR-1706 Receiver so I could turn off and control volume. I have tried to program the new Vip722 remote and none of the Denon codes work, nor does the scan option. I suppose I could keep the old remote and just return the new one, but the red power and TV power buttons are just a little brighter on the new remote.

You could also pick up one of the new 21.0 remotes coming out from Dish this month which are learning remotes.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have owned a MX-500 for many, many years which works great for my DVD, CD player, and receiver. When I'm not watching TV with Dish I use the MX-500. But, when watching TV it's easy to control what I need with the Dish Remote. I decided to keep both TV1 remotes. I was told Dish just tosses old remotes. Maybe someday I will keep fiddling around to see if I can get it power the receiver and volume control from the dish remote.
I also really like the controls on the Dish remote. As good as the MX-500 is it is just too cumbersome for watching TV, especially my overuse of the DVR function. I will look into the 21.0 remote when it comes out to see what it looks like and what it has to offer.
