View Full Version : Dish network: Automatically changing channels Tom Arken 12-04-08, 09:02 PM I have a dish network box which I got with the subscription of Turbo HD channels. Recently, it just keeps flipping channels on its own!! Anyone knows how to fix this? skeelo58 12-04-08, 11:13 PM Lemme throw some options out there..... 1st of all, do you live in an apt building? Do you have any neighbors that have Dish network? 99% chance that they have Dish network, and are using their own remote (the RF one). All dish network receivers operate on the same frequency, and so your receiver is responding to their remote! They don't even know they are doing this to you, just as you didn't know it was them. You are basically out of luck, as you can't stop them from changing the channel. You could try switching the mode on your receiver from Single to Dual. Putting it on single will enable PIP, but it also means that if you change the channel on your main TV, it will also change the channel on your bedroom TV (I'm assuming the 2nd TV is in the bedroom). Putting it on dual mode will alleviate the problem with them changing the channel on your main TV, but not on your bedroom TV. If you want to find out for sure if it is your neighbors, go grab your bedroom remote (it should have a 2 at the bottom). Then when they start changing ur channels, start changing it back to your channel. If they keep trying to change the channel back to whatever they were watching, then you know for sure it's ur neighbor! It can be fun to mess around with them and change their channels! but yeah, first step is to find out if any of ur neighbors have Dish network as well Tom Arken 12-04-08, 11:22 PM I am in a house. I thought about this, but then the channels never go back to one particular channel. Just keep randomly getting reassigned. I do have a neighbor who has dish network. Is there a way to switch off the remote for the time being for the box? skeelo58 12-05-08, 12:19 AM Mmmm. Not quite sure. Like I said, the only way I can think of is to put your dish on Dual mode. That will only help on the main TV, if in fact, it is your neighbor changing ur channel. Scooper 12-05-08, 12:59 AM The REAL solution is to change the address on your RF remote . (probably TV2) instructions should be in your manuals, or you can call Dish support and they can walk you through it. mdamberger 12-05-08, 03:08 AM The REAL solution is to change the address on your RF remote . It kept on asking me if I wanted to stop the recording, or change channel and leave a program I had paused and was still catching up on. It got quite annoying. I then changed the RF channel of the remote, and I think I did the same to the IR remote too. Problem stopped. Ether I had a neighbor in the next house using the same RF channel as my remote, or some device nearby was causing interference on that RF channel. I had used the remotes on the default channels for well over a year before this started one day. Like I said, changed remote addresses, and problem went away. Good luck! skeelo58 12-05-08, 10:13 AM The REAL solution is to change the address on your RF remote . See, listen to these guys, they know a lot more than I do :) Never knew you could change the RF frequency of the remote...
