nlensch 12-05-08, 04:34 PM i dont have a huge budget, i was looking in the range of 300-500 dollars on speakers, would like 5.1 surround sound,
nlensch 12-06-08, 01:42 AM I have decided o get the DRG 720, and i need to know what speakers, go best with it. Like i said before my spending limit is 500 or below for the speakers. Just wanted to know what you think would be the best brand to get to fit my Sony DRG 720 receiver.

If your budget is around $500, there are plenty of 5.1 Speaker System
from brands such as Infinity,Onkyo,Yamaha etc.. These won't be wall
shaking sounds,but it's a start.
If you can spend $600 or so, you can look for brands like Energy or
Definitive Technology etc... which will give you much better sound. Sometimes spending $100 or so can make quite a difference in speakers.
I'd search online retailers such as Onecall,Vann's or 6thAve.
I saw Definitive Technology Pro60 5.1 system for $549 with free shipping,
which is a pretty good deal. These will sound much better than typical
5.1 packages in $300 to $400 range.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out. :)
Definition of "Home Theater" varies WIDELY but I am always surprised that so many people perceive it as more to do with sound than with visual.
I click on "home theater" link on many, many vendor websites and am taken to a list of surround systems and speakers and audio stuff - What Rot! - like trying to say that if you add a few external speakers to a television you will achieve a Theater in the Home experience which, of course, no television on the consumer market today can provide.
If you want to achieve the "WOW, watching this is just like being at the movies" visual experience (which is what Home Theater actually is) then I would recommend you change your focus from speakers and your ears to a projector with a screen and your eyes - Theater is a visual experience and the sound is very necessary but only an accessory component.
Like Gaming?? Imagine a 120 inch diagonal! Sports or Films? Just wait til you dim the lights and a Theater capable screen lights up!
Price? We don't have tons of discretionary cash but we are dedicated bargain shoppers - we bought both our gray and white projection screens for $50 each at a nearby outlet store. We bought our Panasonic 720p HD projector for $600 (your budget) at that same outlet store.
So before you spend a lot of cash to impress your ears consider that gaming and watching movies and THE BIG GAME are all visual core applications to consider making the investment in something for your eyes!!
Goodluck
nlensch 01-27-09, 11:38 AM i am going to purchase a Song Str Dg 920 and the Sony SA-FT1H Flat Panel Speaker System, i just need to know what sort of speaker wire you would recommend getting, i want good quality sound and a fair price. Any Ideas?
Beta Man 01-27-09, 11:46 AM Just get some 16 gauge wires from Monoprice.com no reason to break the bank on speaker wires at this point.
JOHNnDENVER 01-27-09, 12:45 PM On speaker wire? I always just go to Lowes or Home Depot.....

I'm beginning to think that this is a form letter. :)
antwon412 01-27-09, 02:56 PM ^^^^ no kidding. i think every post he has ever made is a cut and paste from word.
and i disagree with him to a degree.
Decent/Good sound is every bit as important as the visual aspect. a 120" screen with a crappy speaker setup is not real great imho.
i have a smaller 92" screen. i recently upgraded from some lower end polk LCR's to some nicer speakers. It changed the whole effect greatly.
Pretty much, you have to have both in order to get the complete experiance. but i do agree it can all be done on a budget.
To the OP - be sure to check out the "HTiB Alternatives thread in the HTiB section. there is some awesome info there. and you can get some prett decent audio equipment for a good deal. of course you will upgrade down the line.....but to start out with, you will be happy as a pig in......well, you will be happy.
