I have a Denon 2910 in my rack to play DVDs. I prefer the picture of the upconversion on this player to current Blu-ray players playing DVDs.

I have it hooked via HDMI to my Pioneer VSX-94TXH and I see that when playing movies I only get Dolby Pro Logic on the receiver. I don't think it is a receiver setting as I get Dolby Digital and TrueHD on the receiver when playing Blu-rays.

So my question is if the Denon 2910 can pass 5.1 over HDMI. I realize it is an older player but I'd be surprised if it didn't as I thought that the first versions of HDMI touted HD picture and multi-channel audio.

If it doesn't, does anybody know if I can send HDMI to the receiver for video and either optical or analog to the receiver for audio? I would assume that the receiver input for HDMI wouldn't have any other audio inputs but I'm trying to figure out some way to watch DVDs on my Denon and still get true multi-channel audio.

Thanks.
