I've tried searching, but haven't seen anything in this avenue.

has anyone done columns covered in stone (or the look) in the basement, to the right and left of the TV / screen?

Something with this type of stone:

Or this look:

Something nice and subtle, with grey tones?

Anyone have any pictures or links? Thanks :)

There was a theater build last week that used stone covered columns and had a stone covered door that opened to access the electronics. Hopefully someone remembers the link. It might have been in the dedicated section.

I built a natural stacked-stone wall outside, but I'm not sure that would help you out. I thought it would be kind of cool to do with the rear wall in my theater to provide sound dispersion, but my wife said no!

I did my bar in eldorado manufactured stone (meseta stone) and a piece of bluestone for the bar top if this helps you any. The eldorado stone is $7 a square foot they also have corner pieces and the back is flat for easy installation. I ended up just using liquid nail to hang it then grouted in between the stones. I found that trying to get anything to stay on the scratch coat when installing was hard so I used trusty old liquid nail. Looks like the above theater columns are the same stone I can tell by the boxes he had it is definitely eldorado stone and looks like meseta field ledge

Here is the wall I built last year in my living room.

This is what I used:

Moldings are made by a local shop and good friend of mine.

Cheers!

That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for - can you go into detail on the build and construction? Any tips? How much did it end up running you to do it (if you don't mind me asking)? I love the look.

THX greg! :D

-Well, since I was on drywall already, first thing I did was to put a black roof paper on the wall. (to protect the wall itself from getting wet later...)

-Then a installed metal mesh on the surface were I planned on instaling the stones.

-I planned how and were to install the finishing moldings as I had to make them stick out at least 1.5" to better match with the thickness of those stones in general. I used 3/4" thick X 2" wide X 8' long pieces of wood under the molding and usualy put 2 of those on top of another to make the moldings stick out even more...

-I prepared the ciment (witch is a special type of ciment with glue for wall aplication, more sticky from what I understood!)

-Apply the ciment starting from the floor up, put ciment on the mesh to fill it out, put ciment at the back of the stone, then press on the stone untill you feel it sticking there. Put ciment as you go, don't go and fill the whole wall first!!

You do that untill you get to the roof! One tip, save yourself a lot of time and rent a good rock or tile saw. Heavy duty stuff, because those stones can be thick and the better saw you have, the easier it's gona be. Oh and take one that has water going true it and on the blade all the time, those are the best.

And that's pretty much it! If you have any questions, go ahead!

Almost forgot, the cost!! If I remember correctly, about 650$ for the stones (In Quebec), a good 200-250$ for the moldings as both corners were already made. For the rest, you have about 150$ of material (wood - mesh - black roof paper - ciment etc...)

Cheers!
