Hello All,

Hopefully in the not too distant future I will get to start building my home theater. First I would like to thank everyone who takes the time to post all the information here. I have logged about a million hours reading and looking at all the great HT's people here have built. Very Cool.

I did some searching and sorry if my search skills are not that good but I could not find anything on this. What is the ideal depth of the area behind the screen wall? I am planning on using an AT screen.

Are there any guides on where to place the speakers? In particular I am planning on having a 2.35:1 constant height screen and if I end up having a masking system when watching an old 4:3, wouldn't the masks end up covering the two side speakers? Anybody ever make it so the side speakers move with the masking. Or is just placing them so it works for every ratio just fine?

Thanks

Use an acoustically transparent fabric like Guilford of Maine (GOM) or Dazian expo / janus / celtic cloth.

You don't want to move speakers.

If you have the room, 3 feet behind the screen is pretty sweet, gives plenty of room to but absortive materials on the wall, space your speakers from the wall, and from the screen. Many have to settle for less.

You can get placement diagrams on the dolby and DTS websites for 5.1 and 7.1 layouts.

Welcome and good luck.

Take a look at my build thread. I have quite a few diagrams for layout in the first post.
