Hi all,
I've recently started researching the world of HDTV's in preparation for making a xmas purchase. I was starting to think that the 42" version of the PZ85 would be a good choice for me. Then I noticed the PZ800 series. In the 42" model, the cost of the PZ800 is about 70% more than the PZ85 (at least on Amazon). I would appreciate it if someone could explain what exactly is better about the PZ800 series vs the PZ85? Especially what is better about it that might justify the 70% price differential?
I'm no expert on the subject of HDTV yet, but what I think are the key specifications seem pretty similar between the two - both 42", both 1080p, both 30,000:1 contrast ratio, etc. The differences seem to be that the PZ800 has a single sheet glass design (how much difference does that make to picture quality?), is THX certified (???) and supports 24p (I understand that this can make blueray discs appear better). None of these sounds like a big deal, except perhaps if there is a big picture quality improvement from the single sheet glass design.
If I go with Panasonic, I'm almost certainly going with the PZ85 (the PZ800 is more than I think I'm willing to spend) regardless, but I am thinking that if I understand what is so much better about the PZ800, I might gain a better understanding of the PZ85's weaknesses or at least what I might end up missing.
Thanks in advance for any help!
