I live in a small town, about 10,000 in the town 35,000 in the county. We have comcast as our only cable provider and they don't offer HD. Virtually all other towns around us has HD. What could be holding them back? Do they have to replace the whole infrastructure? Does it cost a ton of money?

It seems Comcast reps even think this is odd. I've had reps say that if we have digital cable then we automatically have HD available. I've even had an appointment set up, an installer come out, equipment ready to go and then the installer calls to turn on the service and we had to undo everything.

I initiated 5 chat sessions with reps last Thursday and 3 said HD is available and 2 said it wasn't. The website says it isn't when I put in my zip code.

It's just really frustrating and infuriating that cable is allowed to have a monopoly.

Were you an acquired system? A lot of the time Comcast purchases out smaller systems, and those systems are normally not upgraded by the old company. You might be a 450Mhz system...do you have digital cable available though? And what about Digital Voice? If you have those you might be 550 or 625Mhz...

If you could post your zip code that would help. I can see if some of my insiders can shed some light on your system (or look at the FCC COALS database, lol).

Zip code is 30701.

I'm not sure if we were acquired. It's been comcast for as long as I remember,

I know the Triple Play wasn't available to us, so I guess the VoIP doesn't work on our system either.

The internet is awesome, though. I get around 20/2 on various speed tests.

I presume you're Comcast of Calhoun and not Comcast of Rome?

Edit: I checked Calhoun, unless I'm looking at the wrong system you guys are 860MHz? Because I checked the database for mine and it said from 54-750Mhz, for you it says 54-860Mhz.

yes, Calhoun. What does it mean if we are 860mhz?

I just looked up some stuff, 860mhz means more bandwidth so they should have HD, am I right?

I have noticed that they have started taking away analog channels. If you hook up a TV to cable with no box, you can still get most of the channels from 2-80, but they have started removing channels in the last month or so. Just took off History on analog about 2 weeks ago. Could this mean a ramping up for HD?
