LarryInRI 12-07-08, 03:07 PM It's normal and it goes away after a while. It's due to residual cell charge. There is a large thread devoted to this TV. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1000479 Larry kanish 12-07-08, 04:09 PM thanks for the reply, its just odd how if i unplug the power bar it goes totally black and i hear a click, but if the tv it just turned off the red light goes off there is no click and it glows.,. kinda has me worried. kanish 12-07-08, 07:36 PM i emailed panasonic i hope they get back to me soon. tomwil 12-07-08, 08:09 PM Its just odd how if i unplug the power bar it goes totally black and i hear a click, but if the tv it just turned off the red light goes off there is no click and it glows. It doesn't sound normal, as if the TV is not fully shutting down. When I shut my TV down, I wait to hear that relay "click" to confirm that the TV has indeed shut down. Since your TV is new, it might be best to return it rather than having it repaired. Probably not best having problems right out of the box. Please let us know how it gets resolved. kanish 12-07-08, 08:16 PM well i just got a few emails back from panasonic.. on a sunday night??? ok well the guy said its normal if the red light if off the tv is off.. i still dont hear any click with my ear on the back of the tv.. i am gonna let is sit tonight and if it appears the phosphors havent died down by morning its going back. the click i hear when i unplug it is pretty loud so i dont think i am missing the click.. RandyWalters 12-07-08, 08:18 PM .....its just odd how if i unplug the power bar it goes totally black and i hear a click, but if the tv it just turned off the red light goes off there is no click and it glows.,. kinda has me worried. When you turn the TV off it goes into standby mode but it's still powered on. But when you unplug it then obviously there will be no power so there won't be any afterglow. The click is just the TV powering off. There's nothing wrong with your TV. Don't h8 12-07-08, 09:47 PM on my 46pz80u, after shutting it off, the power light goes off and about 3-5 seconds later there is a "click"... kanish 12-07-08, 10:05 PM the guy from panasonic said you should hear a click from 5 to 15 seconds after shutting it off. i hear nothing with my ear on the tv for minutes after shutting it off. kanish 12-08-08, 08:56 AM don't h8 in a dark room after you set has "cooled off" does it get as dark as the tv unplugged? mjoc13 12-08-08, 09:45 AM As mentioned, you should hear the following: tv is on and you can hear it operating (buzzing) with fans...you then turn it off 1 - picture and fans turns off 2 - after about 5-10 seconds you hear the "click" which is the relay to cut power from the psu to the panel. If you don't hear the click and the screen is still bright (not the grey looking off screen), then take is back... If it's defective from day 1, i wouldn't even bother getting a repair guy in there. RandyWalters 12-08-08, 10:12 AM the guy from panasonic said you should hear a click from 5 to 15 seconds after shutting it off. i hear nothing with my ear on the tv for minutes after shutting it off. When i turn off my older PX50U and my newer PZ700U, i usually get the click but sometimes i don't. It's been this way since the TVs were new. It was the same way on my 2003 Panasonic HD Tube TV too. I think it might have to do with how long the TV has been on. Don't h8 12-08-08, 11:14 AM don't h8 in a dark room after you set has "cooled off" does it get as dark as the tv unplugged? Without testing it and going off memory, I say YES. I can check later tonight when I get home. I also have a samsung 4254 plasma and upon initial power off, you see the ghosting images of what was last on the screen for a few minutes. After a while, it goes completely black. I have not noticed this issue with the 46pz80u, but that tv is my living room tv and is primarily used by my wife and 3yr old daughter. It has about 200 hours on it with only about 10 of those being with me watching it. I also have never noticed it with my 60" pioneer, which is the tv that I use 95% of the time. The 60" is heavily used, primarily on Saturdays and Sundays during football season and its never left a ghosting image after shut off. However, a lot could have to do with technologies, efficiency and cooling. kanish 12-08-08, 03:19 PM i talked to a guy at work who has 2 of them. he hears a click when his shuts down. i called panasonic they have people coming on wed. what i have isnt ghosting from what i can tell. this morning i went into the living room (the room was completely dark) and i could go to the tv and check my watch thats how bright it is off. RandyWalters 12-08-08, 03:26 PM what i have isnt ghosting from what i can tell. this morning i went into the living room (the room was completely dark) and i could go to the tv and check my watch thats how bright it is off. :mad:Is this after the TV has been turned off all night? If so, it almost sounds as if the TV is still on but the source (cable box or DVD player etc) is the one that's turned off. Are you sure you're actually turning the TV off? Have you tried pressing the front power button on the TV instead of the power key on the remote? It's possible that the remote is not actually turning the TV off and is turning off the source instead. Weird. Try turning the TV off using the front power button under the screen and report back. If my GF accidently turns off her cable box instead of the plasma TV, the screen does glow because the TV is still on, it's just not getting a signal from the turned-off cable box. Check into this. kanish 12-08-08, 07:00 PM yup thats after being off all night. i thought of this too. i had everything unplugged from the tv to make sure of this. and i have tried the tv control and the controller to get this thing to shut off. the good thing about this is i have found panasonic very easy and a pleasure to deal with. i know i made the right choice in my purchase. kanish 12-09-08, 05:38 PM ok the panasonic guy just left. they over nighted him parts to change. i left him alone so i didnt see what he did but all i can say is.... IT CLICKS OFF NOW WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D back to my break in slide show sigh........ |
