I am completely remodeling a house (40% tear down and adding a lot of square footage) which I am doing myself with a little extra help. I am working on it 7 days a week, when I am not at my 40 hour job. Leaves me very little time for research.
We started this poject last January moving out to a fith wheel.Winter is coming and again and momma is stressing bad about being spending another winter in the RV.
I have about 3 weeks to design and wire my media room. So I must figure out the best way and order all cables and equipment very soon. Sorry about just asking instead of doing proper research my self but my time is so limited.

Looking for advice on what cables to run, setup advice, and remote control advice. I want to run IR remotes from numerous locations.

I want to control all locations with IR. RF will be too expensive with 8 remotes. Every thing has to be easy to control for wife and daughter and guest.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone might provide.
I am doing all work myself.

PS What do you guys think of Monoprice cables?

I don't have the knowledge to provide any specific advice but one suggestion I would have it to put some PVC pipe in locations where you aren't sure about wiring. I got this advice from a builder some time ago, it makes it very easy to pull wires in the future if you make a mistake or change your mind.

It is a one story house. The energy loose can be pretty high when running large enough conduit from attic into the wall. I do plan on leaving leader lines to pull new cable thru walls. Thanks Mike

You'll want Cat5(e - it is all "e" these days, hard to find original cat5) for the IR and/or other remote control options. Run a set next to every light switch so you have control options. Conduit is also worth it - I don't know what "energy loss" you are talking about? Throw insulation around it and you're fine. Air is actually a very good insulator, so an empty conduit in the wall with insulation around it isn't going to cause heat loss for the interior of the home.

Monoprice cables are great.

DirectTV blows because it requires you to pull a pair of coax... this is why I prefer cable to sat. (Also, cable doesn't REQUIRE a box if you only want basic 2-80 channels.) For coax you want RG6 Quad shield. Since you'll have two runs per plate, just buy two spools so you can pull them simultaneously. For the speaker wire in the walls, for surround purposes you shouldn't really need anything lower than 14ga and 16ga is probably fine as long as it's not going too far. surround speakers don't generally eat a lot of wattage, hence higher gauge is ok and is easier to work with in the walls.

remote control I don't know as I am not working on that large of a project (light control/multi-room). someone else will have to help there... but i know that throwing cat5 anywhere you have a light switch will be helpful for wired remote control systems.

WRONG.... I had DirecTV installed in my home with a single wire running to each box. They have a new technology that puts a small box at one point in your home that makes a single run to each room possible.

Edit:
I have 3 dual tuner HD-DVR boxes -> HR22 boxes
