i hope i am in the right area, but here goes. i have a rca dtv flat antenna and i get terrible reception from my living room. is there a such thing as wireless tv antenna transmitter? i would like to install the rca dtv flat antenna outside the balcony to get better signals, but i am not allowed to drill holes in the walls. i would still like to have to capability to change channels. thanks
No. There is no such thing as a "wireless re-transmitter."
We need some more details about your situation. Could you post your TVFool.com results, so we can see what kind of signal levels your facing?
An RCA "DTV flat antenna," eh? sounds like crappy rabbit ears to me. What you need is a better antenna. A Zenith Silver Sensor is a really good indoor antenna. Otherwise, there's always the Channel Master 4221 + pole in the flower pot option.
While you may not be able to drill outside, There are these little "flat coax" cables made specifically for snaking through doors and windows.

what is the difference between the zenith ZHDTV1Z and PHDTV1? besides the cost?
There are experts on the Silver Sensor, but they look almost the same. I'd just grab the $26 one. It certainly can't be worse than your current antenna.
Your 3.5 miles from most stations. This means you have extremely high signal levels and lots of multipath (signal bouncing everywhere).
This dictates that you use an un-amplified antenna. Something with reasonable directionality would also been good. I'd go out to wal-mart and grab a cheap pair of un-amplified rabbit ears and see what happens. If that doesn't work, just to grab a silver sensor.

Is this what you are using?

I noticed these in a local store last weekend, but have not heard any reports of performance yet. Judging by the dimensions, I wouldn't expect it to equal the performance of a Silver Sensor for UHF.
As noted by mattdp, make sure to avoid any amplified antennas at your location. The signals are too strong.
Have you tried mounting it vertically or in a window or in other parts of the room? You may need to try for reflections off of other buildings as LOS appears to be blocked for the local stations.
Note that even if you can get UHF working, the VHF stations (WGTV and WXIA) may be more difficult to receive.
Are any analog channels watchable?
