Dear All!

I am reading this forum for a while and I have to thank you for the advice I got from here! :)

In the last days I discovered a strange problem reading DVDs with my Denon 3930 (latest firmware: BE 8284-8, MAKE DAY 111, DSP 8250, IP 070518 Date: 22. Februar 2008) which I need to discuss here...

It started a few days ago when I put in the first time the DVD from James Blunt All the Lost Souls (2008 Deluxe Edition) (Incl. Bonus DVD):
I could hardly load/read the DVD (took ages to get the menu) and it was impossible to access the menus for the bonus materials.

Today I tried to play Linkin Park Road To Revolution Live At Milton Keynes (CD/DVD) with the same problems - even worse: I was not able to get the main titel to play.
Both problem DVDs are very new - actual produced in 2008.

The symthoms are as follows:
- very long initial load times (to get the main menu)
- very slow response when moving in the DVD menus
- while the player try to read the DVD I here a soft tick-tick-tick...
- after some time the player gives up and the initial Denon screen is shown (stop screen)

Now it get's even more strange:
I tried to verify this problem by using older DVDs - approx. 10 years old.
This old DVDs are read with no problem - menu response is fast and no ticking! :)
When I copy the non working DVDs: the copied version works perfect!!!

Now my question:
What's going on here? Is the player the problem or am I hit by a new (useless) kind of copy protection?

With kind regards
Joe

My original 3930 had these exact same symptoms. It wasn't related to the age of the DVD, but it was specific to certain DVD's. My dealer suspected it was a transport or optical block problem, and just replaced it under warranty (a good dealer!).

Transport problems and optical block problems seem to be pretty commonly reported on the forum (for the 3930). I suspect thats what your problem is too. If its under warranty, I'd recommend you just get it replaced.

Hi Reid!

Thank you for your feedback.
Hmm, well. This looks bad - I am out of warranty for approx. 6 months.
Will contact my seller and I hope he (and Denon) is generous to repair it for free...

Hey Joe Great

I have exactly the same problems/symptoms as you. On some disc's, even new ones, it takes five minutes to load and then nothing happens when hitting play in the disc's menu. Some disc play fine one day, but same problem can happen the next day. Very frustrating indeed. My first Denon dvd player was the 3910 which would only play until the disc's menu and then refuse to continue playing any dvd. I live in France and it was a big hassle to get it fixed and finally replaced.

Very interested in hearing how it goes fixing your 3930? Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Kind regards
Reodor

Thank you for your feedback. After reading thru multiple posting with the same sympthoms, I have deceided to give my device for repair.

Unfortunatly it's already out of warranty - let's see how generous Devon will be...

I will send it for repair after the Christmas break - will post my experiances into this thread.

Laser failure....im afraid..

I had 2 units do this within a period of 4 months...

Denon still have serious issues with laser failures on there products, even there 3800 is having alot of issues regarding laser failures..

Hey I had the samething happen with my 2930Ci. I had no warranty so I did it myself, wasn't too hard. Cost me only $100 for the part, took me about 30mins to get it all done, you just have to remove the little solder ball the covers the 3 contacts by the laser.

This is a common problem with Denon DVD players. They have a high failure rate with their optical blocks. Mine went in twice and is now exhibiting the problem again. This is not an acceptable problem for a $2000 high end player (and only a one year warranty??), Denon should really recall all the players and fix it right. I know the 2900/3900 series starting having issues ever since they outsourced to China.

Well so far I've been lucky with my fix, did it about 4 months ago and i've been watching dvds almost everynight and no problems (knock on wood).

But it shouldn't have to be done at all.
