IS there an expander for DTV boxes?

What do you mean by expander? Are you trying to watch your DirecTV recordings on another device, or do you want to add a larger hard drive to record more shows.

I saw that Westers Digital had a couple of units that were touted as "expanders" made specifically to plug and play with Dish, and some Tivo recorders. Their info did not include use with DTV DVR's.

Ok you are looking to add a larger hard drive then. I believe there is a thread in here already somewhere that talks about what hard drives work best with the HR sereis of DVRs. I think most of the time people post a link to a large thread on DBS talk where people have tested many different hard drives and have a few suggestions. I don't have the link nearby so I would suggest you search for it.

Thanks. I'll search some more. I was surprised one of the WD units weren't compatible.

Take a look at the Seagate Showcase product. It's on the Seagate website under Consumer Electronics Storage Products.

They just started to sell the USB versions this week, and I'd think the eSATAs aren't far behind.

The WD "My DVR Expander" works well with my HR21. It's only sold as a 500 GB product & will get you about 100 hours of HD.

Know that eSata drives replace the internal drive; they don't add to it.

Here's (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=92029) the thread Beerstalker was referring to over at DBSTalk.
