Hope I am in the right section. Don't see a video set up area. I just picked up a Sony 550. My old dvd player had HDMI and I picked up an HDMI cable from monoprice about 2 years ago for it but I don't remember if it is 1.3 or not. Anyway to know by the numbers on it, or must I buy a new one? I know they aren't too expensive, but I have a collection of old wires, and the girlfriend bitches about how much space I take in the closet for it. Thanks for the help guys.

It will either work or it won't since HDMI carries a digital signal. If you are running under 10-15ft., you should have nothing to worry about.

I called AT&T the other day because my Samsung LCD, which is hooked up to a Motorola DVR cable box (used for AT&T U-Verse) was having intermittent issues with the sound. AT&T technical support said there are known audio issues with the DVR boxes they use for U-Verse when using a HDMI cable to hook the TV and the DVR together. The guy then told me that using Component inputs would solve the audio problem. He also told me that the component video actually looks better than the HDMI. Has anyone ever heard of this or had the same experience and solved the problem?

The Motorola boxes can be glitchy over HDMI. Component inputs wouldn't solve the audio problem since they only carry video. He was most likely referring to stereo cables or optical cables. Component and HDMI should look virtually identical on calibrated inputs since they both carry HD signals.
