I bought a Samsung series 9 LN55A950 and I love it. But this is driving me nuts. I have the auto motion plus set to high on the TV and bought the Monster top of the line 120hz rated HDMI cables. I'm using a DirecTV HR21 HD receiver. When I hit the info button it shows the resolution 1920x1080i@60hz for example. Why doesn't it show @120hz? Is it because it's showing the native resolution then the TV is converting it after? Should it ever show 120hz? I know more than the average person about this stuff but when I have a serious question I come here. Thanks for the info in advance.

Should it ever show 120hz?
no. your TV will not accept 120hz input. Any 120hz operation is internal.

I bought the Monster top of the line 120hz rated HDMI cables.Complete and utter waste of money. See below ...Why doesn't it show @120hz?Because there is no such thing. The TV display merely refreshes itself at 120Hz. The only available sources are limited to 24, 30 and 60Hz. The only advantage of a 120Hz display refresh rate (ignoring the Mickey Mouse "motion" BS) is that there is no pulldown required for any of those source frame rates ... they all divide into 120 evenly.

Did the HR21 come with an HDMI cable in the box? If it's long enough, use it and take that overpriced marketing hyped Monster cable back and save yourself some money. If it didn't come with one, order one from monoprice. Compare the two for yourself, you won't see any different in PQ.

Yeah, I have cheap HDMI cables. But as much money as i've spent on the TV, receiver, blue ray player, voltage regulator, speakers, speaker wire, wall mount, paying someone to run wires in the attic and crawl space I wasn't going to go cheap on an HDMI cable. I know a lot of people say there is no difference but now I don't have to worry. Thanks for the help.

When you say you "know more than the average person", I don't believe you. Wanna know why? Because nobody in their right mind, who has done their research, would ever buy an overpriced Monster HDMI cable. TAKE BACK THAT DAMN MONSTER CABLE. Go back to Best Buy and yell at whoever suggested you needed it to get ur 120 hz processing to work.

As others have said, there is no such thing as a 120hz source. That 120hz is done INSIDE the TV, and has nothing to do with the cable. You could use 10 cent composite cables if ya want, and it'll still refresh at 120hz.

Now go take back that damn cable and get your money back. Buy from Monoprice from now on.

LOL, noobs. Marketers love you. While you're at it, please send a check to the automakers' bailout fund.
