I realize this is probably a dead horse. I've searched, I really have, however I cannot find what I am looking for.

For Christmas, my Father wants a satellite radio...radio for his bedside table. He listens via headphones to the radio for an hour or two every night. The problem is all I can find are portable units with optional giangantic docking stations. I'm looking for something small just to plug into the wall and listen.

Any ideas? help is much appreciated!

EDIT: Just to further on my initial comment, the only unit which I have seen that comes close to what I am looking for is the Denon S-52 unit (http://ca.denon.com/ProductDetails/3344.asp). It is satellite (XM) ready, and since the merger I assume it can receive Sirius as well. It's hard to tell how large it is, but the price is definitely too large.

This solution works well for Sirius in our house.

I use the SV1 'visor' mount car unit along with a $5 AC/DC adapter that plugs into the wall and accepts the car kit's 12 volt plug in. You can get the SV1 new on eBay for about $10 shipped. Then add a home antenna (about $12 shipped on eBay). So for about $27 you can take care of all of your satellite needs.

This is connected to a pair of auxilary inputs on a Denon D-M30S mini system. This system isn't sold anymore, but Onkyo makes some very price competitive mini systems that sound quite good. Here's one from Onkyo direct for $189: http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?productid=CS-325&modelid=8&group_id=1&detail=1&ext_war=1

If you sign up for Club Onkyo you can get it quite a bit cheaper I hear. Accessories4Less is an internet authorized Onkyo dealer and they have some nice deals too...better than Club Onkyo, but they are out of stock right now on mini systems. If you don't need the speakers -- which it sounds like you very well might not since your father listens with headphones -- they even carry just the receiver part of the system occasionally for somewhere around $80.

We have a couple of the small Teac systems that are nice sounding for the money as well.

There is a Timex model that I have and like very well. It is a table model I have on my nite stand at bedside. The Model is TMX1. I bought mine at WalMart where they included an antenna. Some places sell the TMX1 but do not include an antenna which is absoloutly required in order to function. In that case make sure and purchase the antenna seperately, ask the vendor. Amazon sells the TMX1 without the antenna I believe. You can Google other suppliers, I found this one online: store.xmfanstore.com/timex.html (please add the URL)
At age 57 I have have enjoyed the features and sound of my Timex TMX1 and have found it easy to use, though there are always some puzzling features that one wonders about. Isn't that the way with most products nowdays? Good luck.
BTW: Unit works GREAT with headphones, I use them to not disturb my wife.
You can reach me at jimdreyer@charter.net if you choose.

For anyone who has a home kit with the Sirius Starmate 5, what works well?

The 21 foot length of the antenna cord of the SUPH1 model might not be enough for me, but I don't want to spend too much for something like a wireless extender.

I will be using it at home in about three different locations.
