I am looking in to getting a new DLP set. My primary usage is pc gaming, web browsing etc from my couch with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

The Samsung "kirk model" 720p set I have now overscaned and I had to create a custom resolution of 1240x716 to get a perfect fit.

I would like to avoid this in the future so can anyone suggest a set (Samsung if possible) that has a 1:1 force feature or something to facilitate my needs ?

Thanks.

All of the current Samsungs have a Just scan picture size option when using DVI/HDMI which has no overscan but some of the frame is hidden under the bezel (<1%)
You could of course use the VGA connection to your component and set your output to 1280x720 and have not overscan. Check the PC chapter in your Samsung manual for details.
Also I beleive if your Capt Kirk model is a HL-Pxxx model you have an Expand Picture Size option when sending 720p over DVI or HDMI and this does no overscan also.
I use the Expand option with my HL-P model with 720p when I have it connected to my PC.

I have the expand option on my kirk model over vga and 1280x720 overscans. I had to create a custom res and regedit to make it show up in games. No biggy.

Are the newer sets more pc friendly ? I would be going to 1080p so I worry about text size as well. It would be a 50" from optimal viewing distance of around 6.5ft.

I can not notice any overscan on my HL-P when using the expand option over HDMI from my cable STB.
I also not notice no overscan over VGA at 1280x720p. There may be some but it has no negative effect on any PC application programs. What overscan there is is cause by optical issues and is not caused by zooming in frames. I say this since I see not distortion of small font text in PC applications due to zooming in (overscan).
