I posted earlier about looking to buy my first projector and was trying to stay under 400. My buddy has one with low lamp hours and will sell it to me for $275. And the optoma for $325.

It will be used in a very dark bedroom on a painted screen and mostly will be hooked up to a PS3 and My HD DVR.

So which one gets your vote?

I don't think you'll get too many comments as most - if not all - of the posters would tell you to buy neither.

Think of it this way - your PS3 would be worth more than the display device. There are posters here who wouldn't spend less than $400 on the screen, let alone the projector itself.

That mini-rant aside, I am using an old projector right now that would compare to the units you are looking at. All I can say, don't do it! Unless you REALLY want a big screen, and you don't care that colours/contrast/resolution will all be pretty bad (when compared to even just a plain 32" 4:3 SDTV) then either will do the job.

I have a 360, Wii, and HD-DVD player and NONE of the three is done any favours when I use my Toshiba TDP-S20U.

I mean, you'd be better off spending that $400 on a cheap 32" HDTV (I'm sure you can find a no-name brand for that) so at least you can take advantage of HD resolution and Widescreen- you just may have to sit close to the screen!

The other option is to wait until your $400 budget becomes $700-800 and you can look at a BenQ W500 or Mitsu HD1600.

Just my $0.02 :)
