I have an old Panny pt-l300u pj with dvi input that is not hcdp compliant. I have been moving my hd cable box close to my PJ so I can use short component cables when I want to watch HDTV...kind of a pain to keep moving my box. I have a very expensive large gage 25' dvi cable that I would like to use. I want to use dvi to rgb component adapters (if I can find some)on each end. My question is, would I see any degradation of pq running this length from my component connection or would it be the same as a straight dvi to dvi connection. I don't want to buy adapters if the pq is going to suffer. Thanks

No idea since an HDMI cable isn't designed to carry analog component video technically. Might be easier to just buy a 25 foot component cable, you can get decent 25 footers at monoprice fairly cheap.

HDMI to DVI to RGB component won't work. HDMI to DVI adapters only connect the DVI-D signal pins - because HDMI only uses digital signaling. DVI-A uses completely different pins. Also, DVI-D without HDCP won't work - every BD player I know of requires HDCP negotiation, otherwise it won't work.
Maybe you could get something like an HD Fury 2 for what you want to do? That's the only solution I can think of.
Edit: Okay, clearly misread... never mind me.
I didn't see where the OP mentioned "HDMI". ;)
No mention of the make/model of the "cable box", but as long as the cable box and PJ use the analog pinouts of a DVI-I cable and supports YPbPr over those pinouts, it could work. But... doubtful since most DVI-I analog signalling is RGB/VGA.
So... I agree with Matt. Get a 25' set of component cables. No sense in spending a lot money on adapters and transcoders. And, 25' for component cables should not be a problem.

demonfoo, he's trying to convert his 25 foot DVI cable to component video cables which could be done with a number of adapters pieced together I guess.
Thanks for all your input. Monoprice 25' rgb cable sounds like the way to go and is around 30 bucks which is a lot cheaper than rgb/dvi adapters to rig up my dvi cable. Btw, my cable box is a sa 8300 hd reciever. I'll hang on to my dvi cable and buy some hdmi/dvi adapters when I finally upgrade to a new PJ. Thanks again
