Hey guys, i've come across these 2 projectors that i can pick up used for under 600. They both are both in great similar condition and will be used in a dedicated (12x14) and completely dark media room. This is my first projector purchase and im hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. By the way i only use the room to watch movies (bluray) and am thinking of going with at least a 100in screen. Your thoughts on this choice would be much appreciated. Thanks guy!!!

I'd rather buy a Sharp DT-510 brand new for $100 more than to bet on the lamp in the HD72 or the iris and polarizers in the AX100.

Second that. The idea of getting a used projector when a competitive projector can be bought new for so little more...

As your 1st projector purchase, it's a def. NO WAY on a used PJ. Double NO WAY if it's an ebay purchase. Triple NO WAY on the pt-ax100u used.

Spend a few extra hundred and get the ax200u or something similar. The ax200u can still be had for about $950. An HC1600 isn't bad either or Sanyo Z60...

I dropped out of an eBay auction for a used projector earlier this week. The seller claimed that it had only twenty hours on the bulb. It was going for $350. However the minimum price (secret reserve price) was something like $400. That was too high.

There is at least a 50-50 chance that the bulb is much older. A new bulb will cost $250 to $350. I would then be looking at a used machine with no warranty for as much as $750.

IMO a used front projector should cost no more than $250.
