I am waiting for my third PVR from Gefen.

The support is zero tolerance, my friend had to replace the unit twice, the screen is not centered when connecting DVI from PC ( Using DVI to HDMI adapter ). The unit broke now and it's been few days with no reply from CYPUK to fix it.

For people considering buying CYP from lektropacks.co.uk if the unit broke or freezes or has an issues that is what they wrote to me, if warranty is expired:

"To give you a rough idea of the costs involved; Minimum cost for repair £50; Postage to and from the manufacturer £30; Return postage to North America £50. "

Contacted Cypress Taiwan.
Response from Cypress , Taiwan:
"The fix fee is around US$30(if the only issue is like what you say) and you have to pay the back & forth freight cost.

All of Cypress products have 18-month warranty. If you can ask the distributor where your friend got this HDPVR, you might pay nothing.

I learned from Air regarding this case that you sent back one unit of Cypress CHD-PVR80G to us for repairing the damage caused by power off during firmware update, and you’ve agreed to pay the required labor fee and freight cost. Please be informed that we will help to fix the unit and send back to you as planned. However, please understand that this is not a service we will normally provide to a customer who didn’t purchase the mentioned product from our distributer/reseller directly, I believe Air has already let you know about this situation.



Now, back to your request to modify your returned unit, I mean, to update firmware to make it better screen centering on certain output displays specified. Please be informed that we will not be able to help on this matter. CHD-PVR80G is a model of mass production, surely you know that every mass production product has its functionality defined and limitations known, it is not like a customized product which you can ask the manufacturer to adjust it to whatever thing suits your requirement. There is a tremendous cost / price difference between a mass production product and a customized/specialized one. The same concept that you will not be able to get Sony (or other brands) to do something different to the single unit of Play Station 3 you purchased, but you might be able to order one of your own specific feature at a price of probably 100 to 1000 times of a mass production unit.



Still, your feedback to our HD-PVR product is very much appreciated, we might consider including the request of change from you (and from all other end-users) to our future models, should there be a plan to develop / engineer them.

This response means that both Gefen and CypIII will work on high quality displays , in another word, if you have HDTV there is no guarantee it will show centered screen. My other LCD monitor works fine.

Dec,15th,2008:
1st Test
Connecting DVI from PC or HDMI from PS3 to HDMI input result exactly in the same cut off ( black border ) at 720P.
Contacted Gefen, they advise that they will contact Cypress !!! to have them fix the problem and send me a new FW.
Last FW is 1.0.9e " Screen still not centered " see rapidshare link above, apply for both Cypress and GEFEN

Hauppauge 1212: Worst technical support ever, good to record PS3, not suitable for DVI or HDMI recording with scalers or scanners. Not bad for recording from Satellite Receiver.

Just to add:

The Cypress ,TW, repaired the unit and send it back to me. They never solved the screen centering issue.
I managed to by a new LCD Monitor and is working fine.
