I have a 60" RCA Rear Projection TV model PS60690.

The unit tries to power on but then shuts down.
All three lights under the lamps come, the green light on the power button comes on and you can hear something like the static is coming out of the screen. No chirping, no hissing sound no funny sound at all. Just tries to come on then shuts off.

I could really use some help here I am at a lose. I have bought my boys a Wii for christmas and the big tv died. Know all I have is a 19". I was excited about hooking it on the 60" and playing with them and the 19" will not be the same.

Thanks
Richard

That's an older and really obscure model. Static sound may be a crt arcing or the HV splitter arcing. You could try replacing the HV Splitter first. Google search came up with this- http://www.fixya.com/support/p17811-proscan_ps60690_60_in_rear_projection

How did you make out with this? I have a 52" (P52771AT) that I just had the HV splitter and block replaced. Local shop, they pulled the chassis (PTK178) as a whole and are finishing it up at their place. Should be reinstalled this week. Maybe $225 total, including the house call.

I've done HV splitters on my old RCA. I watched the service guy do it the first time, and learned how easy it is. Order the parts yourself, and pull the chassis out.

I will probably give it a try next time. The high voltage discharge warnings started concerning me a little. I've only worked on DC circuits before. The "quick check for a bad HV" of pulling one of the power cables and isloating it from arc'ing to see if just a blue gun comes on, honestly stills scares me a little.
