I have limited space “for now” but would like a 1080P Projector for around 3k or less and a screen around 2k or less. Do any of you guys have an apartment and a projector? I am trying to one-up a guy with the new Samsungs 50” Plasma TV. But also get ride of my old Sony SXRD RB1 When I get something new I like it to be x10 better lol J I have always big ass picture also. I have a Sony BDP-S550, Integra DTR7.9, Ps3, Xbox30 and a Wii but will the Wii work with a Projector? Thanks for you’re input.

projectors will work fine in an apt as long as you have 12 (preferably atleast 15) feet to work with.

The sky is pretty much the limit with that budget.

Panasonic PT-AE3000
BenQ W5000
Sanyo PLV-Z3000
Epson Home Cinema 6500UB
Epson Home Cinema 1080UB (if you can find one....most places are sold out since it is now discontinued....still AWESOME hardware)

Those projectors all fit in that range.

Get some pull down blinds...paint your walls a dark color...and get a Stewart Firehawk G3 (that maxes out your screen budget).

You could also get a Dalite HP screen for a fraction of your budget. Or a Da-lite Cinema Vision for a little over half.

There is a ton of info on this forum....just gave you a few items to search for :)

I envy your kitchen. And dining room is just another word for 'living room extension'.

You can buy pull down shades to cover those 3 giant windows....and just get a drop down screen.

Your seating doesnt have to be 12' away, but the projector it self does (like ceiling mounted in the dining room....however wiring becomes more interesting in an apt).

If you could use coma's it would make your post much easier to read.

Yes, a projector will fit fine,, ceiling mount the projector in the dinning area and get a roll down screen to go were your living room window is,, very very easy.
Roll down screens can be had for under $100.00.

We have 13 ft room width - PJ on a shelf leaving lens-to-screen distance of about 11 1/2 feet.

Seating is under the PJ and along that wall - eyeball-to-screen is approx. 12 feet and our image on the screen is near 120 inches and my experience with the above is you really DON'T want to sit much closer to an image that size.

Opposite our PJ are large windows and our solution was to mount a fixed Da-lite wall screen that with side panel light blocking drapes completely covers the windows and once we got used to the screen being there it looks okay - no different that a REALLY BIG tv screen when not in use - kind of like being in a Theater.

Depending on the projector and the aspect ratio of the video you are projecting you can get a nice 100 inch or so diagonal image using an 80inch wide screen - our first screen was a 60X80 Da-lite gray (we really like and prefer gray to white - another topic for another time or send a pm for our reasons).

Anyway, get creative and find a way to have Theater in the Home in your home just as soon as possible - No tv on the market today can create Home Theater and when you sit back and go "WOW, this is just like being at the movies!!" you will be so happy you found a way to make it happen.
goodluck!

I am in an apartment, my living room is 15x15, we sit about 8-9 feet away from a 720p projector. We have a 120" screen and it still looks amazing, especially with HDTV and Blu-ray.

Wii will look crappy on a projector. PS3 and 360 will look jaw dropping. if you can create a light controlled environment when you use the projector, it is definitely worth it. I got a projector for HD gaming when 360 came out. Since then I have upgraded 3 times.
My gaming theatre room is 16x13, projector to screen is about 14' and seating 10-11' for a 100" screen.
The easiest thing you can do is tape out the sizes of 50", 100", and 100"+ on a wall with painters tape.
