View Full Version : Cable Nightmare!

So, first I will admit.

I have everything the way I want it.

In my "unit" (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/20102516) holds everything.

My HT consists of a Panny 50", Oppo DVD (soon to be replaced), XBOX (running XBMC), Belkin Power Bar (snake oil, etc), Wii, H/K AVR435AV Paradigm Ultracube SW), HD Cable box, Plus my Cinema Series speakers.

I obviously have all cables running to my receiver for audio, using component switching for my Wii and Xbox and my Oppo and Cable box are HDMI'ing it directly to my TV.

There are still a TON of wires everywhere. Slack is pushed into the wall, if I remove the back, I can see a mess of cables. While I can kind of hide it, I would fear (and I am going to fear) replacing my Oppo just for the mess of things.

I would love some suggestions to better manage my cables to make it easy(er) to replace components or just hide wires better. My slingbox, an extra power bar are visible through the glass and it just looks messy.

Any advise, or products or anything would be very much appreciated.

One last note, when the Oppo moves upstairs, I am not running a 2nd HDMI through the wall, I have a Monoprice 4x1 HDMI switcher which will manage that.

I'm very interested in this as well as I have the same rat's nest going on behind my entertainment unit :)

nothing beats just getting your hands dirty and routing cables as neatly as possible but this might be of some help. this site also has alot of cable management products

You may come up with some ideas by reviewing the 'show me your rack' thread, in HT construction subforum.

Several 'back of rack' pics included there.

Home Depot has cheap zip ties.

Really, you shouldn't worry about your mess. Keep it in perspective:
