I have a home theater set up with a Sony HT-7000DH receiver with 2 HDMI inputs (labeled for DVD and "Video 2") and one HDMI output to the display. The HDMI output currently runs to an Optoma HD27 projector via an HDMI/ DVI-D cable. I've been able to run HDTV and SD-DVD signals beautifully through this chain since I set things up about a year and a half ago.
So when I brought the new 160 gig PS3 home, I thought it would be an easy swap: unplug the HDMI cable running from the DVD to the receiver, plug it in to the PS3 and viola, right?
Unfortunately not. The projector displayed it's standard box saying it was able to find a signal but all it displayed was a black screen with a small band of rapidly scrolling color on the extreme left. I tried plugging the PS3 directly into the Optoma via and HDMI/DVI-D cable and got the same result.
Any ideas about what's wrong and how I can fix it?
HELP!

What resolution are you sending from the PS3?

Hm, does the PS3's HDMI output work with a DVI-D adapter? Try setting it all up the way you want it (ps3>receiver>projector I guess?). When you boot the console hold down the power button (even after the light turns green), after a few seconds (10-20) the console will beep again and that will reset the display settings.

Try turning off the PS3
Now turn it on by holding the power button for 5 secs (you should hear a 2nd beep)
The PS3 should be able to detect the native resolution of your projector.
If it does not work, try connecting PS3 directly to the projector and try again.

Thank you for the responses.
Not sure what the native output is for the PS#, but upon attempting to reset it using the "hold down the power button" method, here's what happened:
Connected PS3 directly to projector (HDMI out, to DVI-I in).
Turned on projector.
Turned on PS3.
Held down PS3 Power button until second beep - upon which the green light under the power button blinked 3 times then turned red.
Image displayed was bands of fast scrolling color on the extreme right and left edges of the screen.
Any further advice?
Thanks.

AFAIK over HDMI it should ask you if you want to output video/audio over HDMI then ask if you want the resolution to be set automatically. The only default setting the PS3 has is for component (which defaults to composite 480i) and composite (480i), maybe S-video as well I don't know. Holding down the power button resets the setting so that it should go back to defaults and ask you what you want.
Your PS3 shouldn't turn off when holding down the button, the light should remain green. Did you let go of the button and then repress it? When you press it to turn it on don't let go until the second beep. It seems like it is just trying to output in a resolution that is unsupported by your projector.
Otherwise, can you try the composite connection, it could be the PS3, the cable or maybe the adapter (but if you use it with the other devices fine I don't see why it would be)?
How long is the cable run? my ps3 wont work over a 50' hdmi cable i have but works fine to my tv over a 6'. I dont know if the ps3 needs hdmi 1.3 but my next test will be a new 20' cable.
