I was walking through Future Shop yesterday looking for a bedroom TV and spotted a brand new, in the sealed box, Energy S10.3 sub for $199Cdn. They also had brand new RC Minis pairs for $79. The US based members don't even want to know what that is at todays, recently horrendous, exchange rate. Hint .8ish X $. This thing was like $600 a month ago. I have a problem and can not pass up an electronics deal.

At some point I was going to replace a 'for now' Velodyne VX-10B with a SVS PB-10 or 12. The Velo is currently located in a quasi second HT/ kids play room in the basement. The room is about 14 X 25, low 7' ceilings, one door in the corner, and one small window. Equipment includes a PS3, pio VSX-816, Paradigm Titan V-2's, Paradigm CC-290 V5 center, Jamo surrounds, and a 42' Samsung dlp. That TV is next to go!

My question is:

Without going through all the physical and time consuming arrangement options, is there any chance of getting these 2 subs to perform together anywhere near the SVS level? Believe it or not I have been mildly impressed with the performance of the Velo. Batman Lego (PS3), The Eagles in Austrailia(DVD), and Cars (BD) all sound good in the room at my 'less than reference' listening levels. I have not been able to give the Energy a fair listen but based on other reviews it is a fairly confident sub so maybe I should just sell the Velo and be happy with the (approx) $50 upgrade.

By the way, based on the performance of the Ultraclear screen on my Sammy 46' 750, I picked up a 40' 540 for the bedroom. Simply awsome TV for the money.

Any sub opinions, comments, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Forgot to mention:

My friend picked up a Velo VX-10B at the same time I did and has never taken it out of the box. I could simply swap it with my Energy. Would 2 of these Velo's working in tandem come close to sounding anywhere near an entry level SVS 10 or 12? My thoughts are I should just get rid of the Velo and be happy with the Energy. Wait a minute, maybe I could find another Energy S-10.3 at another store location. How does one remove the upgrade bug?

How does one remove the upgrade bug?

It can't be removed, only sated with frequent purchases.

Any chance getting these subs to perform?

Only one way to find out. :)

I have a Vrp 10 (similar/same to Vx)and a Svs Pb10. 2 Velo won't come close to a Pb10. It may go louder in the mid range but it can never go lower. You won't get wall shaking rattle. 2 Velo's would be good for music but not extreme HT experience.

They won't shake your walls, but they will vibrate them. ;)

Yes but when comparing the Vx10 to a Pb10 "down low" it isn't even a close match. The Pb10 is alot stronger. Two Vx10 will sound good for music as well or maybe even better than a Pb10. The Pb10 is a heavy duty HT performer. Music it's good also just the Vx10 give alot of punch in the mid for a small sub IMO.Or seem so. Different sound. Maybe distortion??:) So 2 would work well. Depends on what the op wants. JMO

True. The VX10 is pretty clean and linear across its FR range, but it gives up a lot of output when it reaches 25hz or so. In a small 2000^3 +/- room, even corner loaded, it rolls off about 6db. Using two, place properly in a small room will render a pretty good flat response down between 25 and 30 hz, not bad, but a far cry from the PB10.
