Been reading all the threads on the Pan DMR-EZ48VK. I want to record both analog and digital OTA programs onto both VCR and DVD-RAM or equivalent. Some writers say that you can't record OTA digital programs onto VCR with this unit. So my basic questions are:

1) Is the EZ48 the same unit as Costco's EZ485 (except for packaging)
2) Is the digital channel surfing lag really that bad (~5 sec.)
3) Can the 48 record onto VCR from both digital and analog broadcasts? (I've remodulated my Dish onto an analog UHF channel for distrubuion throughout the house, so I'll always need the analog tuner)
4) Is there a bettter unit for the money for my rather simplistic needs?

Thanks!

1. The Sams/Costco EZ-485 is the same as the EZ-48 and includes a HDMI cable.
2. I'd say closer to 3 seconds but it does seen quite long when channel surfing. Basically all DVDRs with the digital tuner are similar, some are worse.
3. Unit has a analog tuner which can be recorded to both DVD & VHS but digital tuner can ONLY be recorded to DVD.
4. Currently not a whole lot of choices for a decent combo. I don't think you can do much better new.

Thanks, jjeff - Just got the last 485 at Costco for $200, and web-ordering some DVD-RAMs and DVD-R's now. Hopefully I'll get everything in by Christmas so I can open up my new "present".

Good price, I paid $30 more and the EZ-28 lacked the VHS. -RWs also work good and are more universally playable. +RWs have the advantage that they don't really need to be finalized but they have odd search speeds on Pannys so I don't like to use them. RAMs work great if playing back in the recorder or compatible players and have the advantage of chase play and recording one program while playing back another. Good luck!
