First, let me say this up-front. My store only sells HDX 1000 (http://www.amperordirect.com/pc/c-audio-video/audiovideo-HDX_1000.html). You might think I'm biased, but I did try to be honest in doing the Popcornhour A-110 review.

Here are the links to the review:

Part #2: A-110 vs. HDX 1000 Round One: the Look, the interface options and the AC power adapter (http://learnhd.blogspot.com/2008/12/popcornhour-110-review-2-110-vs-hdx.html)
Part #3: Peek inside the box and the vs. Round Two (http://learnhd.blogspot.com/2008/12/popcornhour-110-review-3-peek-inside.html)
Part #4: Conclusions (http://learnhd.blogspot.com/2008/12/popcornhour-110-review-4-conclusions.html)

(Part #1 is just some personal opinions. If you still want to read it, please click here (http://learnhd.blogspot.com/2008/12/popcornhour-110-review-1-bad-first.html).)

They are very similar machines. The only two major differences are the look and the heat management mechanism. I like the look and the case design of the A-110, but like the heat management of the HDX 1000 better. There is never that prefect dream machine, right...:)

Usually, the battery on the PCB is to create a somewhat accurate time data to the system. For example, you need that in a VHS machine so that you can do advanced recording. I don't know any good use of the time information in the NMT player. My opinion is: having the battery or not won't affect the performance.
