Does anybody know if Blue Jeans Cable offers any sort of special pricing/discounts to AVS members? Thanks.

We don't offer any regular discount to AVS members; however, at the moment we do have a sale on certain products running, to support Monster Mini Golf in its fight to defend its trademarks from the lawsuit brought by Monster Cable. This is our "Torches and Pitchforks" sale, and runs through the 15th:

Sold! I think this is awesome that your company is supporting another company in a situation like that.

Quick Question: How much "stiffer" is the 24AWG Series 2 HDMI cables than the TARTAN 28AWG?

For example: How far away from the end would you have to hold each cable before it droops down towards the floor?

Take care,
Brian

Kurt, i do like your website.

i may not be the sharpest bar of soap in the shower, but i do like to read well written descriptions of what you want me to buy.

honestly, for a 15 foot run
(tv on wall on cathedral ceiling, open from back of wall)
down into a closet to the reciever.

what grade do you recommend?

i NEVER want to have to go into the attic again,
I don't want to "troubleshoot problems"
i don't want to see stripes or burst or stars or lucky charms and say "i SHOULD have done it right the first time."

it's only 3 cables, so it is ~$30 total for Tartan, versus ~100 total for the Series 2.

04ctd:

The Tartan 28 AWG cable isn't in-wall rated, and it sounds like you've got an in-wall situation there, so I wouldn't use it. Personally, I would go with the Series-F2, which is our 28 AWG Belden cable. It's Category 2 rated to 15 feet, so should always be capable of handling whatever sort of signal you throw at it, but it's smaller and more flexible than the others (apart from Tartan 28, which is smaller and a tad more flexible). Alternatively, the Series-2 would also work just fine, and is in the middle price-wise ($21.55/cable), but is less flexible.

BNut:

My apologies for not answering sooner--somehow I missed your message here till today. Anyhow: I tried the flex test you suggested, and oddly enough, both cables wind up at about 2 feet of length required for one foot of drop-to-ground. I think the reason for that is that while the 28 is more flexible, it also is lighter and therefore has less pulling down on it. I would say that the 28 is quite substantially more flexible; it's about 2/3 the OD and will easily take a much sharper bend without any kink distortion. Also, it has a shorter strain relief on the connector end, which means you can take an angle more immediately off the back of a jack.

Thanks,

Kurt

Series-F2 - the only HDMI cable stocks made in the United States, built in Monticello, Kentucky and Richmond, Indiana.

well, three little kids in KY or IN are going to have a Good Christmas.
no use sending money to China if I don't have to.

Kurt,

No problem, thanks the information! I received the 24AWG Series 2 and it was "flexible" enough for my current setup. Thanks for providing a great product at a great price for a great cause!

Take care,
Brian

Kurt,
I do wish you would have linked off BJC to Tartan, maybe as "your sister site for more competitively priced products"

i selected all the cables I wanted to be high end off BJC, and it was a few bucks,
then i selected all the secondary cables I needed (like random RCA's and VCR cables, and a pile of 3 ft interconnects for in the cabinet)
and it was a bucket of money.

so i got just the high end cables off BJC, and the rest off Monoprice.

the stuff on MP is really priced well, but i would rather have gotten moderate quality at a moderate price off your Tartan site, than cheap stuff at a cheap price.

i don't mind cheap stuff in most situations, but the stuff i run in "hard to get to" places i want to be of moderate quality.

Like S-VHS: it's hard to justify a top dollar cable for something that may not get used (ever), but i would rather have a moderate quality cable for the 15 ft length i needed, to minimize loss when i do use it.

thanks
john
