This will be my first DVD player. It will be connected to a Pioneer HD DVD recorder (520H or 640H--I have both) and a Sony LCD TV. After spending considerable time here, looking at the specs at Pioneer's web site, and Amazon, I am bewildered over what I should get.

This will mainly be used to watch finalized DVD-R made on one of my Pioneer DVD recorders. I also want to use the player so I can record DVDs (video and music) on my 520H or 640H. Nothing I shall play (for recording) is copyrighted. All the music is on DVDs I have made from my vinyl collection recorded to my computer. The video is either camcorder or TV I recorded on DVDs.

Since all recordings on Pioneers DVD recorders are analogue, all three of these players sound (to me) as good ways to watch DVDs made on these machines on my Sony LCD via HDMI.

All comments will be greatly appreciated. Someone on one of the threads pointed people to a review of the DV-58A which dismissed the 48A from consideration purely because it weighed 6 lbs. versus the 12 pounds for the 58A:

I am taking the advice by many in the DVD recorder threads here and not using my DVD recorders to play DVDs. Given Pioneer no longer markets DVD recorders in the U.S.A., using these (wonderful) machines for DVD playback is not wise. Also, being able to upconvert things burned to DVDs for LCD TV viewing would be nice. The problem is which of these Pioneer DVD players should I get?
