Scientific Atlanta 8300HD running HDMI to Marantz SR7002, then HDMI to Sharp Aquos LC-46D82U....

Everything ran flawlessly up until about a month ago. I now get video (but not audio) drop outs when changing from a SD to HD source and vice versa. I will get an all static image, but retain audio.

Only way to restore the picture is to switch the inputs on the TV to another input and then back to my normal HDMI input, or to unplug the HDMI cable from the receiver and then plug it back in.

I'm using Monoprice HDMI 1.3a cables.

What's the culprit here? Everything worked flawlessly for about 11 months. This happened all of a sudden and I haven't made any changes to my system configuration. I'm wondering if my cable box may have updated and this started to cause the HDMI handshaking issue?

Any chance my HDMI cable is the culprit? Replacing the cable worth a shot?

Thanks for your help.

A freeze frame can be caused by a digital sugnal that's too strong. This might be happening now in the runup to the digital transition.

Easy test for that: Remove amp if one is on the coax feed. If no amp, unscrew incoming coax until it's hanging by a thread, pull center wire out a little so it's no longer firmly seated. This usually attenuates the signal enough to see if any diff... unless you've got home-made coax with a center wire that's too long.

Might have to do both... remove amp and attenuate signal?

Wajo, I'm getting video drop out to an all static image... Are you sure that's related to a "freeze frame".... Sounds like a different problem to me.

Also, if I use your method to determine if my signal is too strong, how do I fix the problem to prevent it from happening?

Not sure at all, that's why it's a test... at least it's an easy one.
