Hello All
I have lurked on this forum since 2006 and i have no finally jumped head first into the Home theater world. Below you find pictures of my space I'm open to any and all design ideas. Currently I'm satisfied with the space but i know it can always be tweaked both performance and aesthetics.

My setup is as follows

My front and Rear speakers are left overs from a Sony HTIB that i use in my family room with in wall speakers.

I'm considering getting some recliners (http://www.rtheaters.com/powerbuy/images/Berkline%2013175.jpg) to put on this wall but only two will fit which is fine for me and the Wife.http://www.rtheaters.com/powerbuy/images/Berkline%2013175.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3208/3102739556_45d4dd8e1d.jpg?v=0

Pics of the screen (the location is good for now but only held up with 2 ceiling anchor)

Now to my problem area. As you can see in the pics i have a pool table right in the middle of my room. I can't move the table anywhere else so i stuck with it which limits the viewing of the bottom 1/10 of the screen. Normally everything is viewable except a portion of the ticker on news or ESPN. Movies are fine as most widescreen formats just have black bars at the bottom anyway.
You can see what i mean on this pichttp://farm4.static.flickr.com/3172/3101909725_a48e0b67d1.jpg?v=0

My projector mount/stand (I don't have to worry about it fallin :))

Any and all help is appreciated or if the problem will go away when the projector is ceiling mounted then great. I'm just looking for general opnions on my space so please don't hold back. I live in Maryland but Im a new yorker so i have thick skin bring it on!

As you'll see in the pics below i don't have as much room to work with as the rooms normally seen on AVS , but hopefully someone can guide me. I just want to get the most out of the room as possible. I know if i got rid of the Pool table i would be all set but it has to stay.

Also I'm sure it goes without saying but all changes to the room have to pass the board so W.A.F is high on the list.

My current plans are to remove the lights you see hanging from the ceiling and have my electrician install about 10 to 14 recessed can lights. I also plan to mount in wall speakers on the side for 5.1 and maybe in the ceiling for 7.1 but that's still up in the air.
I will also be adding a white leather couch and ottoman that my wife is replacing in our family room so ill have more seating. right now i can only seat 4 comfortable so the couch is needed although it wont match at all.

It's hard to tell from your pics (maybe you can provide a scale schematic of the room and furniture?), but could you move the pool table toward the rear of the room and define a seating area in front of it with your sofas?

Nice Job!!! Nice to see someone that truly gets it - television when ya gotta watch some tv BUT a projector and screen when it's time for Theater in the Home!!!

BTW - I just found a link to a site that sells what looks like a nice free standing projector stand for $149.00 - could be a good fit for your situation.

Gotta ask - why do you have to keep the pool table? We had a 4X8 (not even regulation size) and it was still a space hog. Only four people can play at one time and a lot of people are intimidated by pool which is one of the most difficult games to "really" play next to golf.

So I finally sold the doggone thing and we suffered the consequences of having a really nice big space to develop into a much more fun game space and had the room to put in a nice bar, big comfy bar chairs, four super pinball games, foosball and coin-op dart game - now up to 24 people can play at the same time.

We have a friend who is actually a registered professional pool player and his 4.5X9 Brunswick pro table and collection of zillion dollar sticks are his most favorite toys but we're just regular folk who like to have a good time and my bride is a lot happier playing Twilight Zone or Monster Bash pinball or foosball than pool.

Anywho - that's how our game space evolved - hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours and your Theater setup looks perfect (BTW - you do NOT need a lobby area and concession stand and tiered seats to have Theater in the Home - it's an eyeball thing!! LOL!

First thing I would do is paint. Thats sky blue color is brutal! Then I would frame out that electrical box as it stands out like a sore thumb. I would also get rid of those wicker baskets in the bottom of your cabinet and put the PS3 in there..clean up the wires too. Move the fridge from the TV wall.

I like the recessed light idea, but I am against the white leather couch.

Not trying to bust them for ya, but thats what I would do.

you can't even notice the pool table in the middle of the room

what about moving the pool table sideways into the wide part of the room?

would you still have room to play and enough to arrange the seating area?

I gave thought to getting rid of the table but honestly i love the sport of playing pool. I will see how much the table gets used once the projector is setup and decide from there.
Thanks for the last comment i was hungup on thinking a concession and lobby area was needed but your right it an EYEBALL thing and my  are happy!!!

The one thing i'm not doing is painting my wife likes it so...

About framing out the electrical box how would one do that ? Wouldn't that just make it stand out more ? I'm curious to see what this idea would look like because it does stuck out like a sore thumb.

As for moving the Fridge i don't believe it will fit in anywhere else.
I will be moving the PS3 into the cabinet alone with the Wii and the soon to come Xbox 360.

The electrician will be starting on the recessed light next month. The white leather couch will be temporary as i intend to replace it when finances allow with Berklines 13175's on the back wall.

Thanks

That pool table reallllly puts you a long ways from your displays - both TV and screen. Any way you could turn it 90 degrees and move your seating to get closer to the image? Seems kinda like "long-distance" viewing...

Hi Jabney,

Your easiest option would be to:

1. Go out and watch a movie at a real theatre, and play pool at home.

or

2. Sell the pool table, shoot pool with the buddies at a pool hall /bar and set up a more amicable HT environ, and watch movies at home.

The pool table in it's location makes any 'HT environment next to impossible.

The pool table can't be in the back half of the room?

Your right i am quite far away from both. Im not sure if turning the table 90 degrees would cause a problem when breaking the balls other than that it just may work.

I think i'll put together a scale room layout with dimension maybe from there someone can help me with the best use of the space.

I would love to do option one but the theater where i live in Southern Maryland is the worst theater I've been to in my life. The chairs are broken the sounds is mediocre at best and the screen has noticeable tears and or holes. So most of my time at the theater here is just me being disgusted that i paid to have a sub par time out at the movies...but their popcorn is the best!

Ill see what options i get after posting the layout of the room.

Many thanks for everyone's help so far.

Hey guys sorry for the long wait but here's the drawing of my room layout. Hopefully this will help with giving me ideas for a layout for the room.

If anyone is interested in do a 3d view of this in sketchup or the like i would be indebted to you... Please someone hook me up.

Hope everything is clear if not ask and ill clarify.

thanks

Just realized my first scan wasn't to good as i didnt list what was the room in question. I have marked up this version to explain and give more detail to the function of the rooms and items.

Thanks once again for all the help. There no other place where one can get help like you can on AVS.

Dude I would seriously move the exercise equipment out of that room into your "multi-purpose room" and put your home theater in there. Your Panny PJ would work fine in there and it would be a much better location - and dedicated. Then you would have the plasma for TV out there with the pool table and a dedicated theater in what was the exercise room. You say you hate the local theater so why are you compromising on your own??? Either lose the pool table or move your theater into the exercise room. Just my humble opinion...
