I am definately thinking about it. Probably an SVS Ultra... or should I still consider the ULS 15? Hmmm....

The Epik Conquest offers slightly more output than the SVS PB13 Ultra if you can swing the larger footprint.

If not the PB13 is a highly reviewed sub and is very close. I'd recommend it over the ULS-15 just based upon the information I have seen regarding it. Great sub performance from a not as large package.

I'm getting my whole home theater setup for Christmas...or I should be honest and say that my gf and I are getting it. It's our gift to each other..and it was her idea. :)

Onkyo TX-SR876
Infinity Primus 362's (floor standers)
Infinity Primus PC 350 (Center)
ED A2-300 (Sub)
(already have my Advent Heritage H-200's for the side speakers)

While the sub is not the scale that some (read: most) of you guys are getting, I think it should be plenty good :)

Got upgraditis earlier this year. Started by swapping my old 32" Sony CRT for a plasma in the family room, then convinced my wife that our small Energy speakers needed some bass, so I moved my old 10" DefTech subwoofer from my basement theater room, further convincing my wife that I could save her the grief of buying me a Christmas present this year by having me pick up a new sub. The old DefTech (which I bought in 1999 when we lived in a small townhouse) has been replaced by a REAL sub - an HSU VTF HO with the Turbo for ultra low extension. I have only had it for two weeks, but I had no idea what I was missing out on. The HSU literally shakes my entire house. I just watched Kung Fu Panda with my kids today, and the scene where Po defeats the bad guy (forgot his name) with the finger trick really brought a smile to my face. Merry Christmas to me!

I'm working on it. It's been difficult picking the right sub for my HT for less than $1k. My Sunfire MKIV has been great for the last 7 years and I want a good sub to replace it since it's been getting random crackle and pop noise while not in use for the last several months. I decided I want Epik Castle, but found out they build to order and won't get if for a month or more. May go ahead and order the HSU VT3.3 or the AV123 MFW-15. What do you guys think I would be more happy with?

Since you have been managing with your Sunfire for the past several months with its random crackle and pop noise, you could just wait the extra couple months for your real first choice, the Castle.

That is what I would do.

Also this is the time of year I actually us our HT room a lot to stay out of the cold winter and am lacking patience. I would as well. The output of the Epik subs is among the best of any available today. I am extremely happy with my Tower and wouldn't choose another brand without first hearing something in a side by side comparo. In a 10,000 cu. ft. room the Tower has exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to move into a house with a dedicated room. :D

I was going to get one, but then i'd only have 70 bucks left over, I was only going to try and buy a "19" LCD anyway because my CRT is heavy, but my grandmother took $60.00 Mother took $100.00 from me .

Had $449.99

TV was. $199.99 @ BB

it was either that or a blu ray player. $189.00@ wally land I already have about 500 DVD's anyway.

Subwoofer is $99.99, I am not an audiophile and I don't want to kill my parents with a sound cannon lol. I could get a used sub for cheaper... but oh well

Sony DVD player is $45.00 there is a $79.00 one but my Tv is only SD and wont do 1080P so the $79.00 player would be a waste. anything is better than my Phillips, which has so many annoying quirks.

just not sure if it's gonna be a SVS PB13 ultra,

or a

HSU ULS-15.....

I don't really care about every last db of output....

want it great for music, and good for movies....
(my wife hates loud bass during movies... )
maybe I'll trade her in.... :)

anyway.....is a sealed sub generally better for music ?

room is big... 16 x 25 with 9 1/2 foot ceilings...
Focal 1037be speakers crossed over at 60Hz... or 80 HZ....

HSU or SVS.... that is the question....

I'd like to order the coming week....

I think I may have read that before about sealed subs being better for music, but I think ported subs can do just fine depending on the manufacturer. I just got a SVS PC-13 Ultra. I have not had it more than 3 days yet but it seems fine so far. I have used it more for movies/TV so far than just listening to a music CD or something. But this is another thing to consider about the Ultra, it is ported, but they give you port plugs too. So you can change it into a sealed sub by plugging all three ports. It is pretty versatile in that way. Plus, SVS makes a great sub anyhow. Seems to me you could not go wrong. I cannot speak to the ULS-15.

Some people still subscribe to this theory, but the general accepted opinion today is that ported subs can sound just as good as sealed ones. I'd go for output and headroom over a sealed design any day.

I decided to take my chances with the AV123 MFW-15. I ordered it last Monday and will be getting it the day before X-mas.:D

Nope that's probably not the case. They just never answer phone calls, respond to voicemails, or answer emails. Their communication is absolutely atrocious. I LOVE my Epik Tower, but I abhor their customer communication. I was only able to get Karen and Chad on the phone once each out of probably 20 calls and they never responded to either of my 2 emails; I had sent one to each.

Were you going to order a Conquest? That's the only sub they're currently taking orders for. If so I am surprised you went with a MFW-15 as opposed to an SVS PB13 Ultra or something else similar. Either way I think you will love the choice :D The MFW-15 is a very respectable subwoofer and should put many smiles on your face!

I was considering the Castle. I thought about the SVS Ultra and others, but wanted to keep a budget around $1K. I already received new cables from Blue Jeans, just waiting on the MWF. My Sunfire MKIV has served me well. I hope the MWF-15 outperforms.

From russia with love I fly to you
Much wiser since my goodbye to you
I've travelled the world to learn
I must return from russia with love

I've seen places, faces and smiled for a moment
But oh, you haunted me so
Still my tongue tied, young pride
Would not let my love for you show
I case you say no

To russia I flew but there and then
I suddenly knew you'd care again
My running around is through
I fly to you, from russia with love

You can tell by looking at the stern I mean I’m no submarine expect but I’ve seen The Hunt For Red October and that is Russian.

I have to switch back to the other kitty litter this paper litter is driving me nuts! My kitten is sticking his paws in it every 5 sodden minutes and trammelling it around the flat making a mess, because its sticking to his black fur coat like static.

I think he’s going though a phase shift change, I mean he likes it, it drives him nuts because the paper keeps sliding backwards after he’s made a spot to pee or crap in.

Is there a training video that shows how to train the cat to use the bog I seen cats on youtube using the bog, now that is dead funny. :D

Oh, by the way its not 7.4 because the LFE.1 is playing the same signal that’s like saying Baby Boom is Dolby 4.2 where two tracks are playing the same signal on channels 2 and 4 otherwise know as the Boom channel with (Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977). But you call it 7.4 if that confuses anyone else.:D

What’s the frequency response like over the seating area uniform ±2 or so db?

Nice arrangement have you also tried mounting them on top not to make a wall of subs but if you’ve noticed that the tone might be greater at several frequencies than the other matching sub or have you nailed it.

Nice arrangement have you also tried mounting them on top not to make a wall of subs but if you’ve noticed that the tone might be greater at several frequencies than the other matching sub or have you nailed it.

why not use the conventional bentonite clay litter...?

just changed it in the sig. its 7.(1x4)...hows that? :D

fr...i dont know. i can move around my listening spot and the pressurization is very uniform/intense. I would guess it will be subsonic as my drywall behind me is coupling to the cone movement (hulk acoustic cannon scene), quite scary to feel a wall flex!

i tried it with several arrangement and putting the subs lined up seem to produce the most uniform pressurization in the square room. Had the subs behind the couch and feeling was very unatural as pressurewaves can be felt coming from behind. With them in the frontstage - it adds a whole new sensation to the soundstage - pressure waves coming from the same direction as the LCR.

I got a pair of ULS-15's in piano finish for an early Xmas. Totally impressed and am blown away everyday I play my system. So far it's the best early Xmas present ever.

I guess I've been a good boy this year..... got a complete system for my living room!

got a pair of Mirage Omnisat V2 FS front tower and CC center from my fiance! then i bought the Omnisat Sat surround and a Velodyne SPL800 and Onkyo 606 for myself. :D it's quite a big step up from my 5yrs old Sammy HTIB! but again, it's only use for TV and music. we save all the movie viewing in the HT. ;)
